Does a person's name effect their attractiveness? I don't really think so, but I'm just musing on it and wondering if a person's name could ever be ugly enough to make you think twice about dating them.

My mom always jokes that she had to really love my dad before she could resign herself to marrying a "Bart".

My current boyfriend is named Larry, which I don't like, but he is gorgeous and wonderful so I let it go :D

Then again, my name is Maggie, which is widely regarded as either an old lady's name, or a dog's name.

Guys I've dated in the past:
Alex
Ryan
Marcos
Brendan
Curtis
Andrew (who I always called Andy and apparently he hated it but he never told me until after we broke up!)
Josh
Luke
Mike
Marcus
Lino
Ian
Roy
Steve
Adam

Most of those are just the whole high school "kay we're dating now so we'll talk on the phone after school sometimes and not really do much more than that about it" kind of dating.

But anyway I guess it's just interesting because with babies we worry so much about a pretty name. You worry about other things too, what it means maybe or something, but in the end you'll never pick a name you don't like the sound of. But then when you meet someone, if you don't like their name, it doesn't really matter, does it?

I don't really know where I'm going with this, haha, it's just something I was thinking about because Larry is such an unattractive name.

Incidentally, picture a guy you'd expect to be named Larry... But mine is Mexican! Bet that's not what came to mind, huh?

Hmmm well I've never really dated anyone with what I consider to be an "ugly" name.
My boyfriends have been:
Alain
Johnathon James (JJ)
Deniz
Benjamin (getting married in 20 days!)

I do really love my fiance's name though.

I had trouble dating a Seth and a Roy. The just didn't like the sound of the former name, the latter always made me think of a slimy lounge singer, even though the real Roy went to Oxford... He still turned out to be slimy though! Also I knew an exotic looking guy whose name was BOB. It was very jarring when he introduced himself.

I am not sure names effect attractiveness, if you get to know them. It is the other way around. Dexter may start to seem like a cute name if the guy is cute. You may realize that Mauricio is not a great lover, but Jeff is. Perhaps Stone is really nice and gentle, but Sheldon turns out to be an insenstive jerk.

All that said, I don't think I could ever date a Rodney. :p

I've dated a Steve, Kip, Marc, Tim, Tom, Max, Will and Mike.

I almost didn't further things with Kip because of the name. ALMOST. And he turned out to be one of my favorites. I miss him. He was hot too. Mmmmm David Boreanaz lookalike.

I know a Kip, he was my supervisor at my very first job, and we're good friends now. I had the extreme lusties for me (I still do, a bit, he's gorgeous.)

I think it might be the name Kip, because my Kip is extremely laid back and chill. Love him.

Kip is actually Dutch for 'chicken'...which is why I dislike it a lot.
But I'm glad your Kip is great ;)

Brandon (first physical relationship)
David (first really mature relationship)
Paul (8 years older, rebound guy)
Kenny (omg, nasty drunken loser-what was i thinking)
Robbie (rebound guy, set up by coworker)
Larry (mysterious indie rocker dude, broke my heart)
Bill (struggling artist w/useless art degree and lots of pseudo intelligence)
Josh (rebound guy for the above screwed up relationship, turned out to be a drunk. musician type)
Brent, husband and first guy that treated me well, musician/computer programmer nerd and father of my children. i'm keeping this one.

(omg, this is a lot but give me a break, i'm 33.)

eh, i've dated 7 total, and i'm 20. 3 of which were Michael's. However, none of them were "serious" and by dating I mean 5 months was the most, and 4 dates the least. :D

Well of course not... but if someone has a name I think is gorgeous it does endear them to me more.
My boyfriend is called...Craig
I hate his name with a passion, always have done. I really wish he was called something else!
Infact, when i first met him he was known as 'Aussie 2' (my last boyfriend also happened to be Australian.. I live in England) because I couldn't bring myself to say his name when I was referring to him. It kind of stuck.. so he's still Aussie 2. My three other serious boyfriends have been Andrew, Christopher (who went by Chris & Stoph) and Jack. I don't particuarly like or dislike any of those names.

Aussie 2 asked me if I liked his name once. I lied.
But.. he did tell me without my mentioning this.. that his favourite name is Felicity, the name geek in me did sumersaults when I heard that because it's mine too. haha geeeek.

So, I have had four boyfriends in the past:
Chuck (Charles Wayne - nice guy, hate the name though)
Josh (Joshua James - nice name, love him, turns out he's gay)
Gabe (Gabriel Jeffrey - good guy, I like Gabe, don't like Gabriel)
Paul (Paul Scott - first serious relationship, like the name, couldn't deal with his substance abuse problem though)

And then my fiance is James Thomas. His name is okay, but I dislike the nicknames Jim/Jimmy (his family calls him that). I have an uncle Jim who ruined it for me. His last name is Russell, which I have always hated. Since it is going to be my name, I have learned to tolerate it.

I do think that guys with certain names always seem to be jerks. Just wish I could think of some examples!

my uncle's name is Larry and his twin brother is Harry and they're actually Mexican, too, hahaha.

I've had three serious boyfriends:

-Alexis Manuel
-Matthew Joseph
-Dorian Sia

And I'm honestly a fan of all those names. I LOVE "Alexis Manuel", but sadly, I have horrible connotations with it now. Quell shame. I also think "Dorian Sia" is very interesting. "Matthew Joseph" flows well to me, but independently, I really only like "Matthew" as its own name. It's a bit too common for something I'd use, but it is an attractive name to me.

I've dated a few others, but I'm not big on the whole "casual dating" thing. A most recent one is named Brandon Daniel, which I have to admit I became fond of... due to bias, haha. But I never disliked it in the first place. On the other hand, I had feelings for a man named Charles, which I was never a fan of. He goes by "Charley". After I had feelings for him, I found the name "Charley" adorable. Funny how that works.

I made fun of my mom for dating a "Dale" and then a "Larry"... Oh, and first, a "Terry" (My dad).

I feel a bit badly about that now. I guess I was projecting dislike for my own name? Heh.

And I should have emphasized how much I disliked that name until I knew him. As that was to be the point.

I don't think an "unattractive name" reduces someone's attractiveness! but like someone else has said, it is particularly endearing when he has a particularly lovely name. I find some names really sexy but the more I get to know someone, the more ones name starts to come alive and "match" the person, just like the rest of ones traits. If you like a person, he or she becomes more attractive, and vice versa. Same with names I suppose.

(PS, sorry if you have your comments e-mailed to you because I sent the same one over a few times. ...I am a freak about typos sometimes.)

I think it might affect your first impression, but not after a while, when you knew them better.

My boyfriend's name is Lewis, which I really hate. Doesn't bother me too much though. =)

Hmm, I've dated an:
Andrew - HATE the name with a passion now!
Lawrence - Hate him and his poncy name haha.
Ashley Stephen - Such a cute, funny, down to Earth guy. Unfortunately he is gay.
Aaron - Jerk. But I still like the name.
David [Dave]- Love him, bless him! Still think the name's a bit boring, although I do like it.
Michael [Mike]- One of my best friends as well as being an ex. Ditto what I said about Dave

How bad is it that I know almost none of my ex's middle names? To be fair though, none of them were serious. I know Dave's and Mike's middle name and it's really winding me up that I can't remember them...

Current boyfriend: Gary - was never really a fan of the name until he came along!

For some reason a curly haired guy comes to mind when I think of Larry.

I once dated a Daniel which was really strange because my brother's name is Daniel.

When I was 16 I dated a Tim, Tom, Thomas and Timmy. All in one year.
