dear ladies (and uh, gentlemen),

i've been combing through babynaming sites (sigh, again), trying to pick up names that maybe i had overlooked before. i came up with a few that were not originally on my list, or have a different spelling than what was on my list. just looking for opinions and maybe possible middle name pairings. here goes:

Anabel
Astrid
Brenna
Brynn
Penelope
Sophia
Tanis
Tegan
Waverly
Wren

i honestly feel like i'm scraping the bottom of the barrel. not saying i don't like these names, but it wasn't until i retired my two favorites Lily and Ava (after i found out how uber popular they are, i began second guessing my choices) that I started re-searching. nothing is resonating with me, i guess.

I love Astrid/Annabel/Anabelle though.
Anabel looks a bit unfinished to me, but that's just preferences.

Astrid is a name belonging to an old lady in my opinion. It had its peak here (in Norway) in the 1930s, but was also very common in the 1800s.

I really like Ainsley, but without the "i" it looks kinda weird to me. I really like Anabel, Astrid, and Sophia as-is.

Penelope and Brenna are both okay, but not my style. Waverly always reminds me of the character in the book The Joy Luck Club, but I always think of it as a weird name anyway. Tegan is okay, too.

Tanis and Wren are kinda weird, but not horrible. I really can't stand Brynn.

I pronounce them boy Ayns-lee. I like the name, too. It sounds kind of Southern, haha. I've liked it ever since I heard it on a West Wing character.

Tegan seems to be getting more popular, though. I can see that being a new "trend" name in a few years.

I prefer the tee-gan pronounciation, but i like the Tay-gun one too.
If i was pronouncing it tee-gan i'd spell it Teagan.

I think the traditional pronounciation is Tay-gen but it's been anglicanized to Tee-gen. The book I have lists it as a Welsh name that rhymes with MEGAN meaning "beautiful and fair" a modern development of the older name Tegwen.

I love this name! It was on the short list for our second daughter. I do see it becoming more popular, but mostly with the Tee-gan prn.

Ansley - I don't like it. It looks like a typo of Ainsley and to me Ainsley is a masculine name, and not even one I like!
Anabel - It's quite pretty but a little twee for my tastes. I'm not a fan of the spelling either. I prefer Annabel or Annabelle.
Astrid - It's a little too Scandinavian for me but I quite like it.
Brenna - I'm not a huge fan really. I don't think it's as classy as your other names.
Brynn - I've known so many male Bryns that it sounds weird on a girl to me.
Penelope - I like it. It's not used enough.
Sophia - Mmm, it sounds really stuck-up to me but that's probably jut because of the Sophias I've known. Oddly, I quite like Sofia.
Tanis - I don't think I've heard this before. It reminds me of Tanith which is one of my favourite names, but I don't think I like Tanis quite as much.
Tegan - I like it a lot.
Waverly - One of my favourite names! I love it.
Wren - Meh. It's ok but it sounds a bit too delicate and fragile.

Tanith is cute to me. It's more solid than Blythe, a name I also love...but with the same TH sound.

Tanis is something i came across in a babyname site that I'd not heard before either.

Waverly is adorable to me, It reminds me of the girl that was on Survivor last season named Parvati. I'm not sure why exactly.

just fyi: Tanis Half-Elven is the hero of the Dragonlance Chronicles~a fantasy series of books based on the Dungeons and Dragons role playing game. It has a kind of cult following as a name. The heroine is Laurana other characters are Kitiara, Tika, Goldmoon, Riverwind, Caramon, Raistlin, Sturm and Alhana.

Tegan - it could grow on me, I guess.
I'm not a fan of Brynn & Brenna.
Waverly, Tanis & Wren are just really not my taste. They are kinda strange, IMO.

I really like Astrid, but it has such strong Scandinavian roots I don't think I could touch it.
I like Ansley (with the i), but the first syllable sounds like a whine to me, and it's too close to the name Ashley (which I hate).
Tegan is cute, but it's also sort of unisex.
