[identity profile] serendipitous13.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
My cousin is due in December with a girl. My mom told me today that she's thinking about naming the baby:

Gian Avery Ilene L.

I assume the first name is Italian. She said she's heard it for a boy but she likes it for a girl. I'm not sure what I think about it.
There is one more thing to point out... the initals G.A.I.L. spell out her mom's name. My Aunt Gail is very touched and the rest of the family think it's very sweet as well.

Thoughts?

I was wondering how to pronounce Gian too.

I like the initials too, but it's her cousin's Mom, I think it's sweet.

I like the initials spelling out her mom's name, that's a really nice way to honor someone in the family. The names are not names I would choose, but they're not bad. Overall I think it's a sweet idea.

i think the initials thing is cute and really sweet.
but I dont know about Gian..is it like "Gee-Ann"? Maybe if I heard someone else say it out loud it would make a difference, because me saying it tomyself, it sounds weird...but I could be saying it wrong...

Does the G sound like g in Grant, or does it sound like a j? Is the emphesis on the first or second syllable?

Its really pretty, but I think most people will think she is a boy when they first hear the name. But I do like the name, though it fits a boy much better.

I love the initial thing. Family names in any forms are wonderful. Not sure what I think of Gian for a girl, but it's unique; and Avery is a lovely name. All together very sweet :-)

If I am pronouncing Gian correctly, then I think I really like it.
I have always loved Avery for a girl.

Gian... i like Gia or Gianna much better. Gian is a little *too* masculine for my taste.
Avery... i love it for a girl :o)
Ilene... well, my grandmother is Eileen... so i can never imagine it spelled another way haha

I think Gian is lovely! I'm pronouncing it Gee-an which I hope is correct!
