So, I have been starting to pick out names because my partner and I have decided to start trying to have a family and here are a few names we like but neither of us can really agree on.

My top 10 (not in any order):

1. Lili-Anne Renee [Last name]
nn - Lili

2. Garrett Cole [Last Name]

3. Adeline Grace [Last Name]
nn- Addie / Addy

4. Preston Scott [Last Name]

5.  Christopher Andrew [Last Name]
nn- Chris or Topher

6.  Ella Aliese [Last Name]
nn- Elle / Ellie

7.  Alizabeth (pronounced Elizabeth) Rae [Last Name]
nn- Liza (Lizz-Ah)

8. Wyatt Cole

9.  Ava Marie [Last Name]

10. Gary David [Last Name]

And His top 10 (in no order):

1. Raquel Olivia

2. OnnaLiesa Marie [Last Name]
nn- Onna

3. Lauren Grace [Last Name]
nn- Elle

4. Kiel (Kyle) James [Last Name]
It's a unisex name.

5. Emma MarieClaire [Last Name]
nn- Emmie

6. Peyton Richelle [Last Name]

7. Hayden Thomas [Last Name]

8. Chase Andrew Thomas [Last Name]

9. Alexandrea Marie [Last Name]
nn- Lexie / Lexy / Lex

10. Bailey Michael [Last Name]

What do you think of them?

ok, my name is alexandria, and i'm sorry but seeing it spelled the way your guy did, just annoys the CRAP out of me.

i'm sorry. but my name and it's varients (alexander, alexandra) have a long and rich history and he just butchered it to be kree-8-yv

From: [identity profile] samaside.livejournal.com
I don't actually see what is wrong with Alexandrea. It's not like it's Alyxandya or something like that.

Date: 2007-09-12 07:50 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] mrsduryee.livejournal.com
It's just not traditional. Andrea isn't a nice name at all, in my opinion, so of course I wouldn't like Alexandrea but Alexandria is beautiful.

I do like Alexanne, though.

Date: 2007-09-13 03:30 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] samaside.livejournal.com
See, I pronounce them the same so I really don't see a difference in the spellings and I don't see it as creative because I have a friend named Andrea who pronounces it 'on-dree-uh' so it's more or less the same.

My sister's middle name is Alexandra, though she wants to use Alexandrea or Alexandria. Personally, I go for the 'drea' simply because every time I see Alexandria way too much of my research comes pouring into my head, lol.

1. Lili-Anne Renee [Last name]
I really dislike hyphenated names. They seem too kri8ev for me. What is wrong with Lily Anne Renee or Lillian Renee?

2. Garrett Cole [Last Name]
It's a good, solid name. A bit rustic but I like that.

3. Adeline Grace [Last Name]
nn- Addie / Addy
I'd go with Addie. I'm not really a fan of Adeline but I do like Grace as a middle name.

4. Preston Scott [Last Name]
Another very solid name though this one is more of a yuppy sounding name. I still like it.

5. Christopher Andrew [Last Name]
Not a fan of the nickname 'Topher.' But Christopher Andrew is a good name.

6. Ella Aliese [Last Name]
nn- Elle / Ellie
No opinion. I don't like Ella and the names might be too similiar but I like them together.

7. Alizabeth (pronounced Elizabeth) Rae [Last Name]
nn- Liza (Lizz-Ah)
If you are going to name the kid Elizabeth, why not just spell it with an E? I know that Alizabeth is supposably an official spelling of the name but it's just going to put the kid in line for a long childhood full of mispelllings.

8. Wyatt Cole
Again, rustic but nice.

9. Ava Marie [Last Name]
I'm not Catholic so I've never really liked this name. Because, seriously, this is like naming your child after the song Ava Maria. Which, I know some people who did. So, I'm not knocking it, I just would never d oit.

10. Gary David [Last Name]
I like both names but not together. Well, maybe in the reverse order.

1. Raquel Olivia
nn Rocky?

2. OnnaLiesa Marie [Last Name]
nn- Onna
I'm not really sure what that is supposed to sound like but I'm assuming something like Mona Lisa but without the M?

3. Lauren Grace [Last Name]
nn- Elle
I like it. I actually like the nickname combo too.

4. Kiel (Kyle) James [Last Name]
Again, I don't see a reason not to just name the kid Kyle if you're going to call them Kyle.

5. Emma MarieClaire [Last Name]
I don't like the middle name and I personally don't like Emma but it does flow well until you get to the clair part. Emma Marie is short and cute, though.

6. Peyton Richelle [Last Name]
I don't mind Peyton but I don't like Richelle. It goes together, well, though. I'm just not a fan of Richelle.

7. Hayden Thomas [Last Name]
It's nice. I'd probably go Thomas Hayden, though, because I'm a bigger fan of Thomas.

8. Chase Andrew Thomas [Last Name]
I'd nix the Thomas. If you're going to have more than one child it's best to save the good, solid names and not use them all up on just one.

9. Alexandrea Marie [Last Name]
I really like this one.

10. Bailey Michael [Last Name]
I'm more partial to Bailey on a girl but I think that is possibly because my sister's name is Bailey.

Ava is not Ave (as in Ave Maria)

Date: 2007-09-13 03:32 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] samaside.livejournal.com
I meant Ave Maria and in the end it still resembles the song. But she said that they are devote Catholics so then it is understandable.

From: [identity profile] th3-unicorn.livejournal.com
the thing is Ave (as in Ave Maria) is not pronounced the same as Ava. The first one is Ah-vay, the other is Ay-vah, or Ah-vah if you pronounce it like me, but still, they differ. To the point that I'm from Italy and I haven't even made the association :P

Date: 2007-09-13 09:19 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] samaside.livejournal.com
I know that it's not pronounced the same way. I'm simply saying that spelt out Ave Maria and Ava Marie are extremely similiar and if that connection is not intentional it is something to take into consideration.

Looking at the comments, I'm not the only one who thought that and I have known people named Ava Marie that had that association in mind.

Date: 2007-09-13 09:31 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] th3-unicorn.livejournal.com
yes, I guess it could be associated to that. It acknowledge that it simply didn't occur to me :)

My cousin considered naming her coming baby Alizabeth. I made the mistake of mentioning it in this community.

1. Lili-Anne Renee [Last name] - not into hyphenated names. I don't mind Lily Anne Renee
nn - Lili

2. Garrett Cole [Last Name] - I like this a lot. Cole is fantastic.

3. Adeline Grace [Last Name] - LOVE this combo.
nn- Addie / Addy

4. Preston Scott [Last Name] - sounds v. high class, but that's ok. It's nice.

5. Christopher Andrew [Last Name] - I really like this combo, though it's a little plain. Don't like Topher.
nn- Chris or Topher

6. Ella Aliese [Last Name] - Sounds are way too similar, and I really don't like the name Ella at all.
nn- Elle / Ellie

7. Alizabeth (pronounced Elizabeth) Rae [Last Name] - No way. This is just weird. If you want it prn Elizabeth, spell it that way. I do like Lizz-ah, but you should spell it Lizza, since Liza is already a name prn Lie-zuh.
nn- Liza (Lizz-Ah)

8. Wyatt Cole - Ok. Wyatt is pretty yuppy, but I like it.

9. Ava Marie [Last Name] - too trendy sounding for me.

10. Gary David [Last Name] - don't like Gary.

And His top 10 (in no order):

1. Raquel Olivia - don't like Raquel.

2. OnnaLiesa Marie [Last Name] - I like Analisa or Annalisa, but I don't like capital letters in the middle of a name. Ana is prn On-a, so no need to spell it with an O.
nn- Onna

3. Lauren Grace [Last Name] - I like this, though it's kind of plain
nn- Elle

4. Kiel (Kyle) James [Last Name] - Again with the spelling...it read Keel. Like keel over. Which I will do if people continue to mispell perfectly wonderful names.
It's a unisex name.

5. Emma MarieClaire [Last Name] - Ugh. So complicated.
nn- Emmie

6. Peyton Richelle [Last Name] - Peyton is the best quarterback in the NFL right now. It is as masculine a name as David. o_O

7. Hayden Thomas [Last Name] - Hayden always reminds me of Hades. :/

8. Chase Andrew Thomas [Last Name] - I LOVE this.

9. Alexandrea Marie [Last Name] - Alexandria is great.
nn- Lexie / Lexy / Lex

10. Bailey Michael [Last Name] - Eh, it's ok.

Adeline Grace and Garrett Cole

of your SO's list, my fave girl/boy is:

um, looks like you win. i can't choose one from his list. ;)

I honestly don't see why you have some names spelt funny. In the end, something like Lili-Anne looks strange on paper, but will still sound the same as Lilian. Same with Alexandrea, Kiel and Alizabeth.

Date: 2007-09-12 08:41 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] th3-unicorn.livejournal.com
1. Lili-Anne Renee [Last name]
don't like the spelling and it's Renée

2. Garrett Cole [Last Name]
Not bad!

3. Adeline Grace [Last Name]
nn- Addie / Addy
Really pretty!

4. Preston Scott [Last Name]
Sounds very Oxfordish :P

5. Christopher Andrew [Last Name]
I dislike Topher, I think it sounds like a cookie brand or something.
But the name combo is really fine

6. Ella Aliese [Last Name]
I really love Ella, but Aliese makes little sense to me

7. Alizabeth (pronounced Elizabeth) Rae [Last Name]
Thumbs up all the way for Elizabeth Rae, but not like this

8. Wyatt Cole
I don't like Cole, but I don't mind Wyatt

9. Ava Marie [Last Name]
This one I truly like!

10. Gary David [Last Name]
I don't think they match too well, but separately they're good names

And His top 10 (in no order):

1. Raquel Olivia
pretty!!

2. OnnaLiesa Marie [Last Name]
nn- Onna
Registration office: I'm sorry, did you say MonnaLisa?

3. Lauren Grace [Last Name]
I hate Lauren for personal reasons, while I really like Grace, so it's kind of a mismatch to me, but I'll admit they sound good together

4. Kiel (Kyle) James [Last Name]
I'd be fine with Kyle James, but not like this

5. Emma MarieClaire [Last Name]
Like the magazine!? How about Emma Claire Marie? Or even Marie Emma Claire, and still go by Emma?

6. Peyton Richelle [Last Name]
Please, no

7. Hayden Thomas [Last Name]
Too trendy

8. Chase Andrew Thomas [Last Name]
I don't get the concept of 'chase' for a name, but otherwise it sounds cool

9. Alexandrea Marie [Last Name]
Alexandra or Alexandria at the very most

10. Bailey Michael [Last Name]
Cute!

Don't worry about the accent on Renee, the child will go through life having to explain to people that there is an accent over the second E (that's why my parents didn't give me one & I've never had anyone try to put it there)

ah well, I must admit that it makes it easier

I don't like a lot of the spellings - I like Elizabeth, Alexandria and Kyle, for example, but not the "creative" versions, and I don't like names with "extra" capital letters.

I like Adeline, Ava, Emma, Cole, Wyatt and Hayden.

1. Lili-Anne Renee [Last name]
nn - Lili

You mean Lillian? Lili-Anne is just...it's like naming your daughter Emma-Leigh when you mean Emily. Just name her Lilian and call her Lily. With a y, because Lili looks way too cutesey. I like Lilian Renee a lot, though.

2. Garrett Cole [Last Name]

I love it. Garrett is a great name, and it doesn't get used often.

3. Adeline Grace [Last Name]
nn- Addie / Addy

Love it.

4. Preston Scott [Last Name]

It's okay; not one I'd use though.

5. Christopher Andrew [Last Name]
nn- Chris or Topher

Love it.

6. Ella Aliese [Last Name]
nn- Elle / Ellie

I like Ella as a nickname for something else. If you want to use the nicknames Elle or Ellie, why not go for something more...grown up sounding than Ella. Like Ellen or Eleanor. Or even use Elle/Ellie as a nickname for Elizabeth, because in a moment, I'm going to say how you should spell it with an E, lol.

7. Alizabeth (pronounced Elizabeth) Rae [Last Name]
nn- Liza (Lizz-Ah)

Okay. It looks SO weird spelled that way. Seriously, I don't think I'd pronounce it right the first time I saw it, and I'm a rather educated person. Spell it Elizabeth. Take it from someone whose name is misspelled ALL the time; it's just a hassle, especially when it could be so easily avoided. She'll thank you later.

8. Wyatt Cole

Like it, but I prefer Garrett.

9. Ava Marie [Last Name]

Too trendy sounding.

10. Gary David [Last Name]

I like it, but I think I prefer Garrett David with Gary as a nn.

And His top 10 (in no order):

1. Raquel Olivia

Um... no. Just...what? Olivia is great, but overused. Raquel sounds...interesting?

2. OnnaLiesa Marie [Last Name]
nn- Onna

I much prefer Raquel.

3. Lauren Grace [Last Name]
nn- Elle

Love it. So much :) I don't really like Elle as a nickname though, because it's really more like...L.

4. Kiel (Kyle) James [Last Name]
It's a unisex name.

Uh, no. Kyle? yes. Kiel? No. And Kyle James is NOT unisex. Not by any stretch of the imagination.

5. Emma MarieClaire [Last Name]
nn- Emmie

Emma Claire wouldn't be horrible.

6. Peyton Richelle [Last Name]

Eww. Peyton is way too masculine, and Richelle is...a cross between Richard and Rochelle?

7. Hayden Thomas [Last Name]

Hayden? No way. Thomas Hayden? Eh, not too bad.

8. Chase Andrew Thomas [Last Name]

It's okay.

9. Alexandrea Marie [Last Name]
nn- Lexie / Lexy / Lex

Alexandra is much nicer, but I saw your comment about this and I could deal. It's not that bad.

10. Bailey Michael [Last Name]

Eww. No. Bailey is too feminine to be used on a boy.

I think they were getting 'creative' with the spelling of Annelisa/Annalisa and wanted to make sure that it was pronounced "aw-nuh-lisa", re: OnnaLiesa. Either way, though, the spelling is definitely cringe-worthy and probably one of those names that people would post on this community in sort of a "oh, man, I was reading the newspaper and this horrible name popped up, what do you guys think?" way.

i like Lili, but only spelled Lilly or Lily, and Ava Marie reminds me of the Ave Maria a lot. which isnt necessarily a bad thing, just a thought.

My top 10:

1. Lili-Anne Renee [Last name]
nn - Lili
No. No. A thousand times no. As the owner of a hyphenated name of my very own, DON'T DO THIS. No government forms have hyphens as a choice. Lily Anne Renee or Lillian Renee are MUCH better choices. Lili as a nickname/name looks like Lee-Lee to me.

2. Garrett Cole [Last Name]
Decent. Cole is very cowboyish to me.

3. Adeline Grace [Last Name]
nn- Addie / Addy
Very, very pretty.

4. Preston Scott [Last Name]
Snooty sounding. Every time I say this, I affect a Thurston Howell the Third /Hahrvahrd accent.

5. Christopher Andrew [Last Name]
nn- Chris or Topher
Solid, good name. Not a huge fan of Topher (sounds like Gopher) but the name as a whole is excellent.

6. Ella Aliese [Last Name]
nn- Elle / Ellie
Aliese isn't a name. Elise is a name. But it is very repetitive with Ella. Even Alise is very repetitive with Ella.

7. Alizabeth (pronounced Elizabeth) Rae [Last Name]
nn- Liza (Lizz-Ah)
Elizabeth. Elizabeth. Elizabeth. (or Elisabeth) Yeah, it often sounds like Alizabeth, but no one will EVER spell it right. You'll doom the poor girl with correcting everyone, all the time. And having to explain why her parents couldn't spell a name as simple as Elizabeth. ;) And she'll never get to have personalized pencils, or bike license plate, or disneyworld souvenirs. Liza is LIE-zah.

8. Wyatt Cole
So very cowboy sounding. Can cause him to be stereotyped/pidgeonholed very easily.

9. Ava Marie [Last Name]
Ave Maria is how I read it first. Ava is a very nice name, but very trendy. It is on the rise hugely in the U.S. so she would likely be one of 10 Avas in her class.

10. Gary David [Last Name]
Fine.

And His top 10:
1. Raquel Olivia
Raquel...Welch. It isn't awful but the repetition of the "l" sound is a little weird. And if you say the words fast, they really run together. You come up with Raquelivia. Olivia is also very popular in the U.S.

2. OnnaLiesa Marie [Last Name]
nn- Onna
The name is spelled Anneliese or Annalisa and said "ohna-liesa." If you spelled it OnnaLiesa, it'll a) never be spelled right b) no government forms have the option for inner capitals c) probably be pronounced Oonah-liesa or Oh-nah-liesa.

3. Lauren Grace [Last Name]
nn- Elle
Just fine.

4. Kiel (Kyle) James [Last Name]
It's a unisex name.
James is now unisex? When did that happen? Kiel looks like keel and would NEVER be pronounced Kyle. Kyle James for a by is a very nice name. Please, please don't use Keil James for a girl.

5. Emma MarieClaire [Last Name]
nn- Emmie
Magazine name. On the positive side, it's a middle name so it wouldn't be used often. Emma is very very popular in the U.S. now. Every other girl is named Emily or Emma.

6. Peyton Richelle [Last Name]
That one is awful. Peyton Manning + Michelle-M+R = bad name

7. Hayden Thomas [Last Name]
Hayden? It's a last name and just doesn't sound right as a first name unless you are in Hollywood and rich enough to pay people to ignore your name. Is the nickname going to be Hay? Hey-hey, Hay! Letter + ayden names are also super popular (and mostly super-stupid) right now for boys. Hayden will be lost in all the Grayden, Braedon, Ayden, Jayden, Kayden, etc. names.

8. Chase Andrew Thomas [Last Name]
Chase is not a name. It is a verb (or a noun) but not a name. Go with Charles nn Chase, but lordy, when Chase wants to be a lawyer, he'll thank you if he can go by Charles professionally. Plus, it just seems like asking for the child to be a hyper-active little snot ;Þ.

9. Alexandrea Marie [Last Name]
nn- Lexie / Lexy / Lex
Alexandria is a suburb of Washington D.C. I am not a huge fan of name smushes, but it has meaning to you so that helps.

10. Bailey Michael [Last Name]
Bailey sounds like a dog's name. It is awful on a person--at least a person who will grow up to be older than 10 years old, wearing overalls and heading down to go swimmin' at the waterhole. Or else it sounds like alcohol. Still not a good thing to name another human being. Michael is a very good, classic name.

Best names: Adeline Grace, Lillian Renee, Christopher Andrew, Kyle James, Anneleise Marie

From: [identity profile] easter.livejournal.com
1. Lili-Anne Renee [Last name]
nn - Lili

I prefer Lily. Lili is too "cutesey." Fine when she's five, not so cutesey when she's sixty. Unless it's the name Lilianna, which I prefer to Lili-Anne. WDYT?

2. Garrett Cole [Last Name]

I like it.

3. Adeline Grace [Last Name]
nn- Addie / Addy

I like it.

4. Preston Scott [Last Name]

I like it.

5. Christopher Andrew [Last Name]
nn- Chris or Topher

HATE the name Topher but that's purely for personal reasons. Christopher Andrew is a common name but it's also a "classic" so it's nice.

6. Ella Aliese [Last Name]
nn- Elle / Ellie

I *really* like it.

7. Alizabeth (pronounced Elizabeth) Rae [Last Name]
nn- Liza (Lizz-Ah)

Honestly? I hate it. You can't spell it Alizabeth with an A and expect people to pronounce it Elizabeth. She'll be correcting people her whole life and it will be a huge pain. Plus I just don't think it looks as pretty. If you want to get a little creative, maybe Elisabeth or Elisabetta.

8. Wyatt Cole

Don't like it. Reminds me of Wyatt Earp.

9. Ava Marie [Last Name]

Like Ave Maria? It's OK I guess...

10. Gary David [Last Name]

Nice.

And His top 10 (in no order):

1. Raquel Olivia

Pretty.

2. OnnaLiesa Marie [Last Name]
nn- Onna

Pretty AWFUL.

3. Lauren Grace [Last Name]
nn- Elle

Wait - you'd name her Lauren Grace but call her Elle? I don't get it. But Lauren Grace sure as hell beats OnnaLiesa or whatever so that's OK.

4. Kiel (Kyle) James [Last Name]
It's a unisex name.

Not with the James it in it isn't! And "Kiel" just looks like it's the trashier/more ignorant spelling of Kyle. Kyle James is a great name; don't screw it up.

5. Emma MarieClaire [Last Name]
nn- Emmie

Put a hyphen in. Emma Marie-Claire. I wouldn't use it but it's pretty.

6. Peyton Richelle [Last Name]

I think Richelle sounds...not as classy. I'd prefer Petyon Rachel, or Peyton Raquel.

7. Hayden Thomas [Last Name]

It's OK. I've seen worse.

8. Chase Andrew Thomas [Last Name]

Meh.

9. Alexandrea Marie [Last Name]
nn- Lexie / Lexy / Lex

It's OK.

10. Bailey Michael [Last Name]

Sorry, Bailey is either a drink or a hound dog.

...I like your list much better!

I have no idea why someone would spell Elizabeth with an 'A' instead of the 'E' and still pronounce it the same and expect people to pronounce it the same. It looks like it would be pronounced "uh-lie-za-beth". But if you're looking forward to the stares and frequent mispronunciations, please take the child who would have this name into account. Would she enjoy the stares and frequent mispronunciations?
