[identity profile] stephwest.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
I'm thirty six weeks pregnant and I still have no idea what I'm going to name my baby!

The father and I both really like the nickname Kit for a girl, and looking at our 4-D pictures, she really has that cutey Kit look. But the thing is, he HATES any traditional name (Kate, Katherine, Katelyn) that would be her name in order for us to nickname her Kit. What are some unique names that could possibly have this nickname?

I was looking at babynames.com and I saw these two names Kata and Kacia but I'm not sure how to pronounce them.

I think Kacia is pronounced Kay-sha. It can also be Kay-see-ah

Kata is Kate-ah.

if it's a true japanese name, i think it would be pronounced kah-tah (judging by the pronunciation system. i studied japanese for several years). but i may be way off :)

Alot of nicknames don't share that many letters of the names they are short for. Think Meg for Margaret, Chuck for Charles, Jack for James or John, Molly as a version of Mary. So I think you could use Kit as a nickname for almost any C or K name. You could also use the initials KT, if that seems like less of a stretch.

here are some other C/K names that seem related:
Charlotte (rhymes w/ Kit)
Katerina
Cosette
Katya
Catalina
Kae

Kit is also short for Christopher, so any Chris names might work:
Kristin
Kirsten
Crystal
Kristine

I've heard it pronounced "katya" and also, uh, just the way it's spelled (rhymes with "gotcha," but with a softer sound in the middle.) I think it just depends on the accent of the person saying the name.

I also know someone who knows someone with a daughter named "Kitlyn." I'm not wild about it myself, but it could easily be shortened to Kit.

How about Katrina? Or Catalina? You could put Kit into both of those in my opinion.

I like Kathleen and it isn't too popular now, though still traditional.
If you want something that sounds like a real name, but isn't traditonal that could be shortened to Kit I like Catalina.
