I know this is pretty off topic, but..

Does anyone know of any group (LiveJournal or otherwise) that deals in giving out info to people who wish to find biological parents? That is, the info helps them find the person they are looking for or whatnot.

Thanks so much. :)

I don't, but I have some experience on the subject personally. There's a book I'd recommend and I can't think of the name of it at the moment. Let me try to remember...

Well, if you have an idea of location, you could always try the phone book. And I used Google myself... If you're adopted, you might want to try to go through your adoption agency or the lawyer that handled it. Otherwise, I can't really think of any groups that might help.

It's called Birthright, by Jean Strauss. I picked a copy at random from a bookstore when my boyfriend at the time expressed interest in looking for his birth parents and he found it really inspiring and helpful.

VERY long story short, the search went well, and now almost ten years later, his birth parents (now married) and the three other kids they have are good friends of ours came to our wedding and sent us some way cool baby presents when we had our first little girl this year.

There are a bunch of free registries. They're really only helpful if someone is also actively looking for you, but you never know.

Heh, my dad's also in LA. But I sort of knew him, since my mom got full custody of me when I was seven and I remembered him before that. Verizon or whitepages.com or other phone sites don't have a listing? Of course, if your dad has an unlisted number, then they wouldn't help much.

Also, there might be other sites with him. I found my dad through his school website- he's a teacher. Try searching his full name or combinations thereof and see if you can come up with some other connection.

You could also try asking your mother, or grandparents or maybe a friend who knew your mother and him back then.
