[identity profile] paddle-pop.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
I've been reading baby names communities lately and i find that a lot of people these days like 'unique' names and i don't really understand the trend. I'm only young (24) but i'm quite traditional about names. My husband and i like William and Emily at the moment but that changes regularly. Can you guys think of nice, traditional, plain names that we can add to our list? Thanks

I could think of alot. But I like the two you have. My hubby and I are thinking to name our girl Emily and our boy David. The middle names are going to be for a girl Ann and for the boy Matthew.

I love traditional names as well. I think people are looking for ways to give their children special names that would stand out. I'm of a mind that you can do that with traditional names, as well. Anyway:

I like names that aren't so out there, but not a name that every single kid has.

We are naming our baby Eliza, pretty traditional I think.

I love the name Emily! I think that in a few years names like Emily, Hannah, Elizabeth and other traditional names will be more unique than names like Jayden or Kayla.

lol....when my mom named me Hannah Elizabeth 20 yrs ago, it wasn't common at all! Funny how things change...I kind of liked having a unique name back then :)

Hmm, as far as the unique names go I think people are surprised when they see that their child is like the eighth Emily in her preschool class--I think Emily is the number one girls name out there right now. Also Emma is waaaaay up there. But I agree with you about the traditional names--they feel so classic somehow. :)

You might be surprised to see how popular some of the classic names are these days! Take a look at this tool for tracking name popularity (http://babynamewizard.com/namevoyager/lnv0105.html).
