What do you think of Siobhan?
How would you pronounce it?
Can you think of any nicknames?

sha-vawn I believe

[identity profile] bornto-fly.livejournal.com 2007-09-07 01:01 pm (UTC)(link)
It's pronounced Shuh-vahn. I like the way it looks, but it sounds like a trailer trash name, and I always want to pronounce it wrong when I'm reading it, even though I KNOW how to pronounce it.

I think it's ugly. Really.

Shi-von. Short I sound.

I like the name but if you're concerned by such things, the child would have to constantly tell people how to pronounce it.

I think it should be written as "Shivonne". I knew a girl that was named "Divonne".

Shee-von. Or at least I once met someone called Siobhan, who pronounced it that way.
I personally don't like it. I know someone called Shivaughn too, and I like that better, but I'm still not a fan. And besides, people never know how to spell her name (and I think the same goes for Siobhan).

In England it's pronounced Shi-vaughn which is almost how the Irish say it. Shi-like-ship, not shee or shuh.

It's pretty common here because of the Irish population of the UK/proximity to Ireland; the ones I've known have generally abbreviated it to Shiv.

I agree with that pronounciation. At least, I've never heard it pronounced any other way in the UK. All the Siobhans I've known have gone by the full name or Shiv. I hate Shiv.

I used to work with a woman by that name that I never got along with so of course that doesn't help me like the name any. People used to call her Seabond, which is a denture adhesive.

Sha-von

Can't think of any nicknames.

It's like of like Caoimhe to me, I like the way it looks, but I hate the way it sounds.

hate it. It sounds so ugly to me.

shuv-orn

it's ugly.

I know someone called Siobhan and we call her vorny.

shi-vaughn, but it's only because i frequent baby_names communities, haha. most people wouldn't know how, but it's hardly a trendy name. it's very traditional so i think the pronunciation issue should be overlooked :)

I say Shi-vahn.
Nicely spelled name with a hideous pronunciation. Shame.

Siobhan is the one Irish name that I can't stand. I just hate the way it sounds. I work with a girl called Shivorn (ew ew ew).

I love Siobhan!
the only nickname that comes to mind is Vonny.
