Well, this is my first post. For the longest time Ive known my favorite boy and girl name. However, they are quite unusual. So I would like your guyses honest opinion. I dont want to saddle my kids with names that they will hate.

Ok, so, for a girl I like Stalina.
And for a boy I like Gavriel.

And just for fun, these are my other favorites.

Girl: Skyla, India, Josie, Kassie, Joah, Marie, Talise.
Boys: Ryan, Chance, Chase, Micah, James, Alecko, Alec, Matteo, Matthias.

If you want, you can also tell me what name combinations (first and middle) you like best out of my list.

I'm not too keen on Stalina.
But Gavriel is nice.

Chance is one of my most favorite names for a boy. A friend of mine was like "it reminds me of a dog's name" : ( i don't think so though. people give their pets human names, not the other way around, IMO.

I am in love with the name Chase. Not a fan of any of the others, though.

I like Ryan. LOL. Girls I don't have any suggestions except don't use Marie. It's so overused. LOL. Unless you don't care about that.

Never heard of it, but I know that Lenina and Ninel have been used in honor of Lenin, so this made me wonder if this was created after Stalin's name? I suspect people may think so even if it isn't intended that way. Just something to keep in mind.

Nice. Are you pronouncing it just like Gabriel but with a v, or are you using an "ah" sound in the first syllable?

Yeah, Ive worried about the whole Stalin thing too, so I was thinking of spelling it Stallina or Stalena.

Gavriel starts with an ah sound, so its kind of a combo of Gavin and Gabriel. Its the Russian form of Gabriel.

I think it can be pronounced either way. My nephew is named Gavriel, and we pronouce it like Gabriel but with a v. And for short we call him Gav (pronouced like gave.)

Wow, Ive never heard of anyone named Gavriel except for people in Russia. Thats so cool! Is your nephew Russian by chance? If not, where did his parents find out about the name?

No, they aren't Russian at all! haha. However, they are Orthodox, and I believe they got the name from some Russian people that attended their church. I'm not positive about that though. They picked that name because they thought it was unique. If you're looking for a name that no one else has, then I say you should use Gavriel. I think Ryan would be a good middle name.

Alec and Matteo are wonderful names. Your children will have less common names without being made fun of for it.

For your girls names, well. I don't really like any of them. I like Cassie when it's spelled right, and Marie is kind of blah. That's my middle name and I hate it. Josie is nice if you give her a fullname (Josephine) to fall back on. I can't see someone wanting to write down Josie on a job application.

What if it was spelled Stallina, Stilina or Stalena? I love the name, but of course, if I have no way of people not thinking about Stalin, then I wont use it.

Oh, Lord. Stalin was a dictator who was directly responsible for the deaths of MILLIONS OF PEOPLE.

Yeah, I know about stalin, I majored in Russian History in college. I threw the name out there to see if people would pick up on it. Since it seems that most people here have picked up on it, Im throwing out the spelling of Stalena, Stallina, and Stilina. I just love how it sounds, I dont like Stalin in any way, shape or form, thats for sure! (I pronounce it Sta-lena by the way, so I dont really think of stalin when I say it out loud.) It looks like I may have to drop liking this name tough! Maybe I should just go for Lena.

Here's something that might work for you: Stellina. It's apparently a variant of Stella (http://tools.oxygen.com/babynamer/TypeASearch.cfm?Gender=G&Unique=1&TellMeAbout=stellina). I don't think anyone would have a Stalin association with that.
