What about Ren for a first name? I doubt my husband would ever go for it, but I think it's kind of cool.

I was thinking more of for a girl.

That spelling doesn't make me think of Stimpy.

...and Stimpy? (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Ren_and_Stimpy_Show)

I agree with the other poster, Wren would be nice for a girl.

It's a top name for me for a girl - spelled Renne, though.

:)

Something about Ren seems too incomplete/short, and Wren just screams BIRD!!!

Hmmm... I'm really bad at combos so I'm trying not to think about it until I am actually getting ready to name a child. The only combo I'm sure about is my first daughter: Lorraine Channing.

Renne Elizabeth maybe. I think Elizabeth is a universally-suitable middle name, but I wouldn't use it. Too blah to me.

Renne Michelle. Popped into my head. Renne... hmmm... I'm drawing a blank.

I think it's really pretty, and I'd go with an S too. :)

Awww, too bad. I have never seen the show ever (no desire, and wasn't allowed) so the image to me isn't that, lol.

It's spelled Wren, and it's a girl's name. Without the W, it reminds me of Ren & Stimpy.

I work with a man named Renwick, nn Ren, so I associate it with men. And as a nickname, not a name on its own.

I use Wren as a nn for Rowen.

I think of either Stimpy, or Kevin Bacon in Footloose.

Wren reminds me too much of the bird.
Ren looks incomplete, plus makes me think of ren & stimpy lol
Renne- as someone up there suggested- isn't bad, actually.

i knew a girl named Karen & they called her Ren.

I used to really like Wren until I realized it sounded like Ren, as in, and Stimpy.

I used to call a girl I knew named Renee that, though, because I do think it sounds really cool if you ignore the manic chihuahua association.

I've thought up the name Ren for a girl as well, inspired by the O'Ren Ishii character in Kill Bill vol.1 -check it out, if you never have, it might even convince your hubby ;)
But I've been struggling about what names it could be a nickname for, since it's too short in my taste to be a name on its own.

The first one off the top of my head today is Renard, which is not typically a name, but the french word for 'fox'. But it makes me think of names like Leonard, that means 'as strong as a lion'.

Another one that comes to mind is Renée, but I personally don't like.

Years ago there was a character on Neighbours called Ren. It was short for Serendipity I think.
