Current name whim: Grace, nickname Gray.
It's a name that's growing on me.

Names I've come across recently:
Antissa
Ave
(as in "Ave Maria" is the famous incipit phrase of a catholic prayer, originally in latin. "Ave" is a latin form of salute, as in "Ave Caesar", prn Ah-vay)
Swami (Swah-mee), sanskrit
Melrose (I'm not sure any of you are familiar with the tv series "Melrose Place", but here in Italy it was kinda popular back in the early 90's)

WDYT?

I like Grace fine, but I would be really surprised if people outside the family called her Gray. It's just kind of personal-sounding, like...my friend Michelle's mom used to call her Shelley, and we would never call her that because it's so private and special to that. In any case I can't see anyone naturally shortening it because it's already one syllable.

I raise my eyebrow at all those names

Gray is a cute nn, but as the person above mentioned...it's already one syllable, so I'm not sure anyone else would call her Gray :)
As for the other names...
Antissa: I think it's sorta pretty, but I don't like it enough to ever use it.
Ave: No...I immediately think 'Maria' when I see that =P
Swami: Dislike. Much.
Melrose...it's kinda tacky, IMO. Maybe it'd be better if it hadn't been a tv-series. Wasn't there a girl in ANTM who was called Melrose? I believe her real name was Melissa Rose.

Ave is the only name that is even remotely passable in my opinion, and even then, I'm not a fan.

Swami is, according to dictionary.com, "an honorific title given to a Hindu religious teacher."

Melrose... sounds like a stripper.

Antissa sounds made-up and a bit trashy.

That is pretty, and a good balance of feminine and no frills. :)

I'm reading a novel right now which has a character in named Ave Maria. Wouldn't use the name myself, but in the abstract it's pretty cool.

I know a little girl named Anissa. She has a little sister named Ami (a-ME). I think they're cute.

I think Gray is a cute name for a little girl. I really love it as a middle name as well.

I think that Grace is too short to warrant its own nickname.

Don't like any of the others.
