Hello! I'm about 9 weeks pregnant with my first baby! What do you think is the most important thing in naming your child? For example, should it just sound good, should its origin represent your heritage, or should it be something meaningful? If it's meaningful, where did it come from?
boy:
elliott - musician elliott smith. i've loved him so much for a long time, and he died 2 years ago.
adrian - basically because it's the boy version of "adrienne" which i love
bodhi (bo-dee) - i'm buddhist. bodhi means 'enlightened/awakened' or 'wisdom'. it was also the name of the tree the buddha became enlightened under.
evan - i just love the way it sounds
jason - the love of my life who's no longer here. i also like variations, like jay/jace/jayden
skye - i think i like it more as a middle name, after the character "Sky" in Hero
torrey (tor-ee) - this was actually the name of my art teacher my senior year in high school, who was a very powerful inspiration to me
tyler - i like the nickname "ty". also the main character (tyler durden) in my favorite book "fight club". i know. what a bad role model to name your kid after, but he doesn't have to know that! lol
girl:
allison - love the way it sounds: strong, graceful, artistic. i also knew a girl named allison who i swear was the most beautiful artist i'd ever met. i like the nickname "ally".
adrienne - my alter ego ever since i was a little kid. i've actually been thinking of changing MY name to this for a long, long time. i love the nickname "adri" too.
savannah - anyone ever seen the movie "savannah smiles"? that was my favorite movie when i was little, the little girl in it was adorable, hence, i've always loved the name savannah
synnove (si-no-vay) - unique and pretty, and i also found out when someone did my family tree that i had a great great great grandmother named "synnovia".
for a girl, i also like (but not as much, maybe middle name material)
Kanya (sanskrit for daughter/maiden)
Inddhe (another sanskrit/buddhist name) or Indi/Indie
Adia
Ava
Anya
Out of those names, what are your favorite first name/middle name combinations?

Allison and Evan are my favorites from that list. Evan is a nice name, cute and handsome at the same time.

The girl names are all fine, if not particularly my taste. I think I like Adia the most. The only one I really don't care for is Synnove. It just reminds me too much of synovial fluid (http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=synovia). I am in a medical program, but I don't think that word is that obscure. They are close enough that I think a lot of people would think of that.
