[identity profile] dcrachel.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
Hi, I'm new. My husband (of three weeks) and I have talked about baby names well before we ever said "I do." Now that we are official, we've been talking about baby names non-stop! Alas, we won't be trying to conceive for about a year. But still...babies!

So here are our favorite names:

Conrad Joseph
Richard Todd (we don't love either of these names, really, but they cover all three of our fathers. We'll come up with a cool nickname or something...)
Jonah Todd

Amelia Mary
Zoe Alice
Eva Mary-Alice
(Obviously, Mary and Alice are in the mix no matter what. The two together cover three of our grandparents, my mom, his sister, my aunt. Plus, it's pretty.)

These are all quite nice. Conrad's something you don't see often, but I sort of like it. Jonah's nice, though I prefer Josiah.

And I like all your girl's names, though I think Alice Mary would be my favorite combo, actually. I don't really like Mary-Alice hyphenated as one name. Alice is a gorgeous name. I had to take it off my list because my dumb husband once dated an Alice who told nasty stories about him.

I know a kid who goes by Chard; it always makes me worry that people are going to call him 'Chard the Tard' But, uh, maybe that's just me.

I prefer Rick(y) as a nickname for Richard.

oh, i hadn't thought of that, but i suppose it is a definite teasing possibility. but then again, rick rhymes with dick, and lick, and probably lots of other words, so it had teasing potential too. i'm not sure if i like chard, but thought i'd suggest it just in case the OP did. :) i'd probably use ricky as a nickname for richard, if i was going to use the name richard.

I think Chard sounds horrible. I don't make fun of kids because of their names (I'm a little old for that) but I think Chard sounds gross on its own and like a lot of potentially mean things. For actual names I never worry about teasing, but in this case...

I like Richard on its own without a nickname and I also like Rich as a nickname. I knew a Richie in school, as well as a Richard who I sometimes called Richo. I don't love Rick, though I prefer it to Ricky. And I don't think Dick is horrible, but school children might disagree.

I like Jonah Todd, but I REALLY don't like Conrad or Richard. Joseph and Todd are okay, but I prefer Jonah and Joseph as first names.

Joseph Richard
Joseph Todd
Joseph Conrad
Jonah Richard
Jonah Conrad

For the girls, Amelia Mary is GORGEOUS, and I like Zoe a lot, too. Eva Mary-Alice is okay, but it screams "Desperate Housewives!" to me because of the actress named Eva, and the character Mary-Alice. And I don't even watch that show! lol. So, I'd stay away from that one.

Amelia Mary-Alice doesn't sound horrible, and despite the alliteration, I even kind of like Amelia Alice.
