Tuscarora. What do you think? I personally am trying to talk my friend out of this name. It sounds to me like someone took the words Tuscany and Aurora and smashed them together.

Am I just off my rocker, or is it an awkward name? Any ideas on how to make it better?

it sounds like the cross between a car and a disease. Maybe just use Arora?

Um... Tuscarora is a Native American tribe. I would say, not a good choice for a person's name. :-\

It reminded me of Tuscany as well. And it just doesn't sound right. Talk her out of it! ;)

Haha sorry, but it's ridiculous, I hope you can get your friend to see that.
"Tusk" is a disgusting sound for the beginning of the word... and "tuscarora" sounds like Tusk-o-rama or something like that... it's just such a mishmash of unpleasantness

It sounds to me like "Please try our famous tuscarora ribs!"

Depending on the part of the country where the friend lives versus where the tribe lives, this name could be both ugly and possibly culturally insensitive. A double bonus.

I only joke about naming my kids after Native American words. My favorites are rivers: Humptulips, Stillaguamish, Dosewallips, Duckabush. That would be a fun naming theme.

There's a restaurant near me called Tuscarora grill. I forget how decent it is, but that's what it makes me think of.

The "tusc" bit makes me think of walruses...and then I think that the Tuscarora could be a tribe of walrus-people in some weird fantasy/sci-fi thing.
