okay... so i'd like your thoughts
Aug. 22nd, 2007 03:45 pma made a list yesterday and got great feedback! :D so THANK YOU! lol
now, it was a consensus that 90% or more of the people who saw these names loved them:
Sean Andrew
Nathanael Ryan
&
Catherine Amara
there were others that i got some suggestions on, so i altered, and then there were some that i paired with other names i liked and so forth (mostly girls).
i would LOVE y'alls feed back on those names. i'm pretty close to having my "list" lol. i just need some input. :-)
OH! and the name "Bradan" is a traditional irish name and should have an accent over the last 'a' - i just didn't know how to do that. and it's pronounced "bray-dawn"
thank you ahead of time! and feel free to either JUST vote, or to vote and then leave me feedback on your thoughts/opinions here. :D

Date: 2007-08-22 08:50 pm (UTC)Nathanael Ryan is great too. I prefer Nathan but its great. Sean is still #1 for me though hehe
Catherine Amara is fantastic. Catherine would be really high on my list...but its my niece's name. Lovely though. We call my niece Cate a lot too which I like
And Bradan is great too btw. But Sean tops them all

Date: 2007-08-22 09:08 pm (UTC)I don't really like Bradan, mostly because people are going to assume it's the same as the trendy Braden, but it's WAY better than some names you could have chosen to use, so I say go for it, lol. I think it works as both a first name, or a middle name, but I prefer it as the latter, and I think it works great with Joel.
On another note, I adore the name Asher, and it's WAY better than the name Caden, so I'm going to BEG BEG BEG you to use Asher Caden. Plus, I think it flows better. But mostly it's because I don't think enough baby boys are named Asher, and I probably won't use it because it doesn't really fit with my other favorite boy names, haha. Plus, I think it fits really well with the more Biblical sounding Nathanael and Joel, and it even works with the more Irish Sean and Liam, whichever way you go with the boy names. I prefer the sib-set Nathanael, Joel, and Asher, but either one would be fantastic, I think.
For the girl names, I have a hard time picturing an adult named Layla. If you used it, I'd recommend the spelling of Leila; I just think it looks cleaner, and slightly more professional. I think I said this in a comment to a post you made the other day, but the y's in names when they can be avoided always seems really cutesy to me. While Layla works well on a little kid, I can see Leila fitting both a child AND an adult.
I dislike Bronwynn and Roisin, mostly because of my own personal preference. I think you have some GORGEOUS names on your list, and I think names like Abigail, Lorelai, Elizabeth, Emma, and even Amara (I prefer this spelling to Amira) would fit a lot better with the boy names you have picked out. Stylistically, I can picture two boys and two girls named Nathanael, Asher (sorry, I'm stuck on those two names!), Elizabeth, and Abigail, but it doesn't seem to flow as well with Bronwynn and/or Roisin.
However, like I said about Bradan, they are way better that some names you could have chosen, so if you think I'm full of shit and love those names more than the others, I'd say go for it.

Date: 2007-08-23 09:59 am (UTC)I really like Abigail Raelin and Elizabeth Roisin as well =)
I think Sarai sounds somehow too ethnic for the other names you picked out...but that could just be me.
Oh, I forgot to mention that I like Asher Caden as well!

Date: 2007-08-23 01:16 pm (UTC)lol it's b/c in the actual Bible, it's spelled with an "ael" and he is one of christ's 12 disciples... most often thought to be the same person as Bartholomew. :D
so since i'm aiming for biblical names... "ael" it shall remain. lol. on THAT i refuse to budge. ha ha ha

Date: 2007-08-23 01:23 pm (UTC)as for bradan, i think i may end up sticking with it simply b/c i cannot seem to find another traditional irish/gaelic boys name that i can seem to fit/flow with joel. it's frustrating. but if i can find another, i may use it.
asher caden seems to also be a consensus of ppl, so i may go that way. the more i say it aloud and read it, the more i come around to it. lol and good call on seeing that in every name, boy or girl, one is biblical. :) that's my aim. i want my kids to have a strong tie to their faith, but also give them the option of having a second name just in case they grow up and decide they prefer otherwise. :)
layla is another traditional irish name (if you can belive that lol) i may come around to Leila though... i have to think on it ha ha ha.
Bronwynn i've been on the fence about... i love it on paper, but to me for some reason it just never *soundS* right.... but roisin? guh i can't NOT stop loving it. it's absolutely one of my favorite irish girl names (right after siobhan, but i HATE how that one is pronounced b/c it just sounds so... trailor-ish to me... dunno.. bah) so i'm trying to find biblical names to pair off with Roisin b/c i am determined to have it on my list lol.
and i do not think you're full of shit ha ha ha. you're one of my best critics! :D lol. i adore you *metaphorically speaking* ;)

Date: 2007-08-23 01:26 pm (UTC)i was definately "wtf?", b/c it's one of the few german girl names i can tolerate. (my "pattern" for picking out names is: one directly from the bible, and the other has to be from one of the parents' heritage. but ethnic/country specific names are hard to pair or like lol)
i'm glad someone else liked Vivienne/Emma Sarai... lol. :)

Date: 2007-08-23 01:44 pm (UTC)OMG! I feel the same way! I think Siobhan looks cool, but Cha-van just sounds like a stripper name or something. It just...ugh. It's unfortunate, because it does LOOK cool.
Roisin really isn't THAT bad, so if you used it, and paired it with something else, I don't think it would be a problem. I think it's probably just my own personal preference for names clouding my judgment, haha. And she could always go by Rose/Rosie, or by her middle name, if she felt the same way I do about it. So if you really like it, use it. And Layla, again, could be a lot worse, so if you like that spelling better, then use it. I just always end up disliking names with y's in the middle. I don't mind them at the end, and sometimes (like Ryan, or Alyssa), I can deal with it. I just always try to talk people out of them, haha.
I was thinking Seamus Joel might sound good, but that doesn't really work with the name Sean. Hmmm. Joel Aidan? I don't know. Joel Braden/Bradan doesn't sound bad at all, and even Bradan as a first name wouldn't be bad. I think it's just so trendy lately, it might be better to use it as a middle name, or to avoid it altogether.
Hahaha, I'm glad you like my criticism; I try to be helpful! And I love a lot of your names, so I adore you, too ;).
