Grant: What do you think of this name?

Andrew: Should someone by that name go by the nickname Andy or Drew? What's your preference?

Edit: What about the name Cullen? Your thoughts?

I like Grant, but I think I prefer it as a middle name.

Andrew is a gorgeous name just by itself, with no nickname. But if you need one, I think Andy. It's much more common and it's what most people will assume so he won't have to correct people. And Drew always gives me an image of Drew Carey.

I agree - Andrew by itself is a great name.

Not a fan of Grant.

My brother's name is Andrew and he's always gone by Andy. I nannied for an Andrew who went by Drew. Both are fine for Andrew nicknames in my book.

I don't love or hate Grant. It's just ok.

Andrews should go by Andrew.

I have never been a fan of Grant, but find that it is growing on me. Andrew is fine by itself, but as far as nn go, I prefer Drew.

grant has all the qualities of a good name: recognizable, but not overly used. people know how to spell it, isn't horribly old-fashioned or in any other way embarassing. still, i've never really gotten into it.

i prefer andy to drew, and i always have.

cullen is ok, but it will always sound to me like a butchering of colin. or color.

Andrew is a horrible name and I don't like Andy or Drew.

Grant sounds old.
Andrew I actually like.
Cullen? I'm not a fan.

[identity profile] 0o-faerie.livejournal.com 2007-08-20 04:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I dont' really like Grant. It reminds me too much of Hugh Grant & 'That's grand!' ;)
I like Andrew, but I'm not too fond of either of the nicknames...although I can't come up with another nickname. If I had to pick one, I'd go with Andy.
Cullen...hm. I don't know. I don't hate it!

[identity profile] mystickiwi.livejournal.com 2007-08-20 04:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Grant's ok
Andrew: I don't think they should have to go by either, I personally like Andrew just as is, but Andy is better than Drew
Cullen: not a fan. Cull isn't really a word with a positive connotation, and thats what the name makes me think of

[identity profile] silver05.livejournal.com 2007-08-20 05:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Grant is too grown-up to be used on a kid. I can only imagine a kid with that name being expected to be very grown-up already.

I used to like Andrew but that's my ex's name, so now I'll never use it. I like Drew better than Andy. One Andrew I knew went by Ange. He was one of three Andrews and Andy and Drew was taken. He was a quirky kid so it fit him well.

Not so much a fan of Cullen. It sounds like kind of scythe or something.

[identity profile] feelslike-2day.livejournal.com 2007-08-20 05:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Grant is nice, simple, and relatively timeless.

Not huge on Andrew, but I like Drew way better.

Cullen is alright, not overly exciting though.

[identity profile] requiem-morrow.livejournal.com 2007-08-20 05:35 pm (UTC)(link)
I like Cullen....only problem is where I live, we have a rich guy who most people believe got away with murdering is stepdaughter, the mom's boyfriend, and shooting the mom named Cullen.

Grant is okay. I like Andrew or Drew, but not Andy.

Cullen is cute, I like Cullum too. And Kellum, actually.

[identity profile] americandiva.livejournal.com 2007-08-20 05:55 pm (UTC)(link)
the only one i like is Andrew with the nn Andy....but just Andrew is great too

[identity profile] sevensevenfour.livejournal.com 2007-08-20 06:09 pm (UTC)(link)
I like Grant. I like the way it sounds and looks. Andrew is a good name to use without nicknames, I think. I prefer the nickname Drew to Andy, though. I've just never liked Andy. Cullen is cute, but not one of my favorites.

[identity profile] bornto-fly.livejournal.com 2007-08-20 07:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Cullen is okay, I guess, but I don't really like it that much. I mean, there's nothing wrong with it, but it's not one I'd ever use. I do LOVE Andrew, though.

What about Andrew Grant? Or Andrew Cullen? Or even Grant Cullen? They all sound really nice together.

[identity profile] corielcries.livejournal.com 2007-08-20 07:45 pm (UTC)(link)
I like Grant and Andrew, but I dislike both of those nicknames for it. Andrew sounds perfectly fine on its own.

I just don't like the sound of Cullen for some reason.

[identity profile] oni85.livejournal.com 2007-08-20 08:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Grant is my husband's name. I love it.

[identity profile] politicking.livejournal.com 2007-08-20 08:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Grant i don't mind.

Andrew, i prefer the nickname Drew... well, i prefer the name Drew itself, actually. but i've know quite a few Andys.

i do not like Cullen.

[identity profile] xpaniic.livejournal.com 2007-08-20 08:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I like Grant and Cullen better than Andrew.
If it were my kid I'd probably call him Drew, instead of Andy.
I have a friend that's name is Andrew James and he goes by AJ.

[identity profile] blue-suspenders.livejournal.com 2007-08-20 09:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Cullen says Edward Cullen to me. (If you've read twilight...)

[identity profile] padfootinpurple.livejournal.com 2007-08-20 09:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Me too. And while I'm a huge fan of the series, I'd only be able to think of the book and Edward.

[identity profile] lneef.livejournal.com 2007-08-21 01:48 am (UTC)(link)
I like Grant. For some reason I'd expect him to have a brother Pierce. They'd be very preppy and handsome.

I'm not a fan of Andrew but I prefer it in its full form if it must be used.

Cullen= no.

[identity profile] mountain-nest.livejournal.com 2007-08-21 06:04 am (UTC)(link)
My husband is called Andrew and never was nicknamed Andy nor Drew. He has always just been Andrew.
