(no subject)

So, I was watching Boy Meets World reruns last night (I used to be such a devoted fan :D) and Eric had a girlfriend on one of the episodes and her name was Desiree (Des-ah-ray). I really like the name, but I haven't heard it before that (I don't know where I was when that episode aired or perhaps I just didn't care then because it was in season 2). What do you guys think of it and is it a popular name I just haven't heard of and how do you spell it exactly?

I had a friend with that name when I was a little kid. Her name was spelled like you have it, Desiree. I'm not sure if there was an accent over the first e or not. I think it's a good name.

I like it. It's French, basically means "beloved." It used to be on my favorite D names list, but I decided a few years ago that I don't quite like it that much.

i remember that episode. eric was totally whipped. that was back when the show was still funny. i think the name is ok, though perhaps a bit too grown-up sounding. i know a five-year-old named desiree (nn: dez, or dezi), and it just seems out of place. i picture it more on a stripper, personally.

I think it's an okay name, but I'm not too crazy about it. The french spell it Désirée, I believe.

I've heard it a lot, but in those instances, it's almost always used on someone who could be classified as "trailer trash." I can't hear the name without thinking of several really skanky girls in high school, or the daughters of said skanky girls' friends. I've never met a Desiree that wasn't like that, either, so I always see it as a Trailer Trash name.

Same here. See also: Cherish, Brandy and Natasha (at least where I grew up).

i agree, it seems skanky and trashy to me, based on the people i've met with this name. having the word "desire" in it, which has some pretty sexual connotations, enhances the skanky-ness.

I have only met one girl named Desiree and that was quite a while ago about 15 years. She was pretty normal not trailer trash or anything. I think it's pretty, not a personal fav though. I like the way it looks with the accents. I dont get the stipper vibe from it at all.

i went to school with a Desiree (accent over the last E, i believe). she would be 22 or 23 now, so it's not a 'new' name or anything. i've heard it before, but i'm not sure how popular it is.

It's actually.. a really common name. I know about five Desirees, all of them spelled Desiree except one who spells it Dezarae.

It sounds pretty, but I definitely associate it with trashy stripper-types as well.

Trashy. It should properly (with that pronunciation) have the accent over the first e. It means (obviously) "desired", which has a bit... adult-sounding connotation.
