Some people I know just gave birth to a beautiful baby girl and named her Carter Eros. It took me a minute but I don't think Carter is that bad of a name for a girl I'm not sure about Eros for a middle name though. What do you guys think?

I believe Eros is the Greek god version of the Roman Cupid. Naked baby cherub with wings and a bow and such.

I cannot abide surnames on girls. They feel pretentious and harsh to me.

Sounds like a boy's name to me.

Carter on a GIRL? Ugh.

I really dislike this new trend of using masculine names on girls. It's one thing if it's a nickname (Charlie for Charlotte, for example), but I really hate boys names on girls. Especially with a masculine middle name, too.

Did anyone in their family clue them in that those are BOTH boy names?

I think people need to stop giving little girls ugly masculine-sounding surnames for first names. And Eros is the name of a god, not a goddess. >.

I think the right girl could pull off Carter, it is not the best name for a girl IMO. Too bad there aren't really any good nn options either. Cary? Cece? Eros aside from being a God is also the name of a chain of "Adult" stores - I can't abide by that one.

I keep imagining all those girls' ugly boy names on pretty wedding invitations and just shake my head... It'll look like invitations to two men's civil union.

I like Carter on a girl but if I was going to give my child a unisex name I'd give them a very strong middle name that could only be one sex. Like Carter Emily, for example.

Eros is actually one of the four Greek words for love (I only know this because it's part a tattoo I am considering), for the state that is "being in love."

So, unless they ARE Greek, it seems a bit off to me.

As for Carter, it reminds me of a horrible teacher I once had (who named her daughter Kirby Carter - ew) and president Carter.

I'm not sure about Carter. I knew a boy in school named that, so I think I'm biased to the boy about the name.
