I'm from the deep south and I was looking for a southern name...

No double names like Mary Sue
Bobbi Jo , Billie Ann or anything lol.

I'm confused as to what a southern non-double name is.
But I don't live in the US so that may be why.

thank you for the link, but I knew a typical southern name is double.
The author of the post was looking for non-double, that was the quirk :P

You know, I'm actually exhausted (and still can't sleep) and I mis-read your comment!

* That was me on the wrong journal. See? So tired.

Annabeth is my very favourite. It is a double name, sort of, but so graceful I think. I'm not from the deep south, or from any south, but I plan on using it.

Ainsley is thought of as southern as well and I love it.

Ainsley?

I've never heard that name in my life (well, I'm not southern). Is it a girl or a boy's name?

I've always heard Ainsley as a more feminine name.

If I ever have a daughter, her name will be Savannah Rae, of course, Rae is the middle name and we'll call her Savannah, or Vannah.

My grandmother and her sisters were born in the south, and these names are kind of old, but...

Janice
Ruth
Doris

and my mom's name is Brenda Sue, which doesn't sound too "hick" to me.

My dad's name is Dale (Middle name actually, but he's a twin and my grandmother needed something to rhyme with Gail. Don't ask me) and I've always considered that a pretty Southern name, for male or female.

My name is Ainsley. I've never associated it with a Southern American name. I suppose because it has its origins in Scotland.

I guess I think of 'classic' names such as Vivian, Georgia, Sydney, Adelaide, Louisa, Charlotte.etc.

Dunno which kind of Southern you're going for but for like, Old Virginia, which I guess I know better, I always think of Roman-ish girls' names and English-surname boys'---

Lavinia, Carolina, Victoria, etc.

Carter, Page, Lee, Peyton, Jackson, Aston, etc.

And then some more...
Abbott, Aberdeen, Abner, Angus, Booker, Darcie, Daisy, Delilah, Earlee, Ford, Forest, Foster, Graham, Ilene, Ilah, Knox, Lilianna (does that count as a double?), Levi, Lola, Lovie, Milly, Noble, Reginald, Stanton, Tallulah

Some bible-y names:
Jebediah (Jeb), Rebekah (Reba), Jacob, Ephraim, Sarah, Abraham, Caleb, Gabriel (Gabe), Ezekiel, Rueben, Samuel, Keilah

I always think of the following names as Southern:

Virginia
Caroline/Carolina
Rose
Camille/Camilla
Magnolia
Margaret
Susannah

just basically old fashioned names. For boys, I think surname names like Lee, Tucker, Carter, etc are pretty Southern.
