Not that I've ever wanted to actually have children, but I'm quite certain that I'd name my boys Nikita and Dmitri. The, the other day, I was thinking that in the unlikely event that I get three or four sons it'd be really stupid to stick a some of my other favourite boys names there, like Raphael, Julian, Justin, Jaycee, Jace or Kaycee, in there. With a little thinking I came up with two other boys name of Slavic/Russian origin, namely Alexis and Sasha.

So my question is, how does this subset look:

Nikita
Dmitri
Alexis
Sasha

(I'm aware that three of the names are more common on girls than on boys, but I just think they fit boys better.)

Nikita is a feminized male name, but still. WIth the names Lolita and Evita being so popular, it just makes sense that people would think Nikita comes from Nikka or some feminine version of Nikolaus.
The sibset you're suggesting is fine, other than the fact that it's soooo typically Russian. Almost like having John, John, Micheal and Paul in the US.

I forgot, my favorite Russian name for a boy is Ilya :)
it used to be one of my top fave for boys and I pronounce it Ee-LEE-ah.
It can also be spelled Ilja, but I'm not sure how they pronounce it either way.

ok one more thing then i promise 'll stop posting in bits :P
Nikita is also one of Elton John's songs, and I've always thought it referred to a girl, but come to think of it, now I realize why the chorus goes "counting ten tin soldiers in a row". Although it's true I should've thought male instead of female, considering it's Eltie! :P

Actually, Nikita, Sasha and Alexis ARE boys names in Russia. They're not even unisex, if I'm not mistaken. It's only here in America that people use them as girl's names.

That said, I see nothing wrong with mixing ethnicities.

i like Jaycee/Jaycie on a girl, but have never heard it for a boy before. same with Kaycee, Casey isn't bad, but Kaycee (to me) is very feminine... i think it's the "ee" ending.

people would probably say "Sah-cha" rather than "Sah-sha"

Looks okay to me....I LOVE Sasha, but only for girls. Though if you like it on a boy, that's fine.

Besides the seemly "girl" name aspect of it I like them all. I mean to say that they all have a real/solid origin, besides I'm sure they were all boys names to begin with. Though I must say that I'm biased towards liking Alexis as it is my name.

I like Nikita, but associate it with a girl's name because of La Femme Nikita, a show I used to adore.

My fiance wanted to use the name Dmitri if we had a son, but I adamantly refused. I felt like it was such a strongly cultural name (as opposed to John or something more neutral) and attached to cultures with which we are not connected. We aren't Slavic or Greek or anything of the sort.

That said, I don't dislike the name. I just felt odd using it.

I prefer all three names for girls but I think in a set like that the names go really well together and I'd assume they were all boys.

That's true, Nikita and Alexis are male names in Russia. Sasha can be used both for boy and girl - it's a short form for Alexandr (male) and Alexandra (female). Note, that the full names are different.
I love name Nikita. I'm thinking about naming my son (if I have one) like that.
