If you had to use it...would it be for a boy or a girl

its growing on me and I would use it for a girl

Hilton. American Idol brat.

*Gag me with a spoon*

It's a male name, but any use of it today would be really confusing as to sex.

And either way... you've got either wussy Greek mythological hero, or skanky heiress. Bad associations, either way.

Paris Hilton has completely ruined the name for me (not that I ever had a particular liking tied to the name anyway) but I think of a rich, spoiled brat.

I think it sounds lovely, despite the associations.
I would use it for a boy.

I like it for a boy because I like Greek myth names, but I'd never use it because of skank face Hilton.

It's a male name to me, but - Paris Hilton. Bleh. Also, there was a skanky girl at my school named Paris.

It's always been a girl name to me, and not just because of Paris Hilton, I've known a few kids named Paris and they've all been girls.

The name, unfortunately, has become synonymous with "skank," and I think it will remain so for quite some time.

I prefer it on a boy, and it's definitely a boy's name in my opinion, but because of Paris Hilton and Paris from Gilmore Girls and several other female Parises, people would be really confused about gender.

i like it for both girl & boy... however Paris Hilton really ruined it for some people, i think.

not just no. hell no.

[identity profile] mmmrorschach.livejournal.com 2007-07-24 03:11 am (UTC)(link)
If you're using it in honor of that most meretricious hotel heiress, than by all means YES.

[identity profile] th3-unicorn.livejournal.com 2007-07-24 05:31 am (UTC)(link)
Paris is a male's name (in italian Paride, PAH-ree-day), on a girl it makes me think of Paris the city. But now that Paris Hilton has ruined it for everyone, I don't think I'd ever recommend to name a child that.

btw, do you pronounce it Par-is or Pare-is?

[identity profile] th3-unicorn.livejournal.com 2007-07-24 05:33 am (UTC)(link)
p.s. it's also one of Micheal Jackson's son's name

[identity profile] rubytitania.livejournal.com 2007-07-24 07:25 am (UTC)(link)
I always kinda liked it for a boy until Paris Hilton became famous...

[identity profile] jordle.livejournal.com 2007-07-24 08:55 am (UTC)(link)
I could never use it now after you know who, and I think people would assume that is where you got the name.

[identity profile] the-good-ship.livejournal.com 2007-07-24 12:32 pm (UTC)(link)
It'll always by the capital of France to me, not a name.
Plus, as every boby else mentioned - Paris Hilton. Not good.

*everybody

Its a male name to me, but I could never use it because of Paris Hilton.
Ick.

[identity profile] fruhlings.livejournal.com 2007-07-24 05:38 pm (UTC)(link)
it's a boy's name to me.

[identity profile] krosp.livejournal.com 2007-07-26 12:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I know it's a boys name originally.. I consider it so trashy either way, but if I was forced to use it, I'd use it as a girls' name.

It just seems so..... ponsy on a boy. I imagine a fairly normal girl if she's called Paris, maybe a bit of a brat, or maybe just a smart quiet girl.. but I imagine a boy with a shaved head other than his long rats tail, one pierced ear and pink nailpolish. And old, smelly clothes.

I wonder how such a vivid picture is coming to mind. Maybe i have met a male Paris before who met this description

[identity profile] roseofjuly.livejournal.com 2007-07-26 09:05 pm (UTC)(link)
All the actual people I know named Paris have been boys, and I think it's traditionally a male's name. But I would never name a child that, because besides the fact that I don't like the name, Paris Hilton brings bad associations with it. I cringe when I hear people saying "Paris? Like Paris Hilton?" to my children (although hopefully her reign of terror will have ended by the time my children go to school).
