[identity profile] 0o-faerie.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
Over the past two days I heard a few names I never heard before:

Girls:
Rehan
Reich

Boys:
Caimin
Jillis

Rehan is pronounced Ray-ahn and she was a cute little girl (which is probably part of why I thought it was a pretty ok name ;) )and she looked Arabic, so I looked up the origin of the name and it's Arabic indeed, it means 'scented'. I kinda like the sound of Jillis as well, but I don't really like any of the names.
Reich is German for 'rich' and I'd never seen it as a name.
As for the boy's names, I have no idea what they mean.

Any thoughts on the names?
(Edit: I forgot to add the meaning of Reich 8))

No matter how they pronounce it, Reich just doesn't seem like a good idea for a name to me.

agreed. people will probably see it and still pronounce it the way its pronounced, in its original fashion, which is a negative connotion with the third reich, because that usage/pronunciation/word has been so commonly seen.

sometimes i wonder what the hell goes through parents' minds. do they realize their kid will have to go through life with the name they choose, put it on job applications, college apps. have it on their diplomas. go through school for 20 some years with the name. parents try too hard to be unique and it goes way overboard.

dont get me wrong, i am an advocate of unique names, but seriously... there's a line. reich doesnt just cross it; it does the long jump over it.
