(no subject)

Hi! I'm a new member here. My name is Jill, and I'm 19, absolutely no baby or any plans for one in my near future (lemme get through college first!), but I love names. It's a hobby I've always had, since I was very young and made fateful lists with my least favourite names crossed off with a fiery passion. At any rate, I'm just incredibly happy I found this community. And, I have a question.

The name Adeline for a girl is one that's been running on my mind for a while. I'm not sure on how it's meant to be pronounced, though. Does anyone know? what do you think about it?

I would equate it to Madeline, which can be pronounced either Madda-line or Madda-lynn. So whichever you prefer, I guess.

Oooh I like that even better! Yeah, pick that one! :) That's beautiful.

I've heard it used like ad-a-line. I like it.

Hi great to meet you :)
Can totally relate to all that, am in the same position myself.

Adeline is a nice name, would say it add-eh-line.

i'm french, so the people i now with that name usually pronounce it Add-a-Lynn.
:)

actually i live in montreal (canada) and most people here speak french.
i think it's a name common in older generations (i say this because i think i have a great aunt with that name, and it also reminds of 'Adelaide', which is another similar name popular with older people in this province).
in my opinion, it sounds much nicer and modern in English. :)

AD-uh-line (ad like advertisement, line like it looks, not lynn)

add a line, basically.

I went to high school with a girl named Adelyn, and she pronounced it "ADD-lynn," with the nickname "Addie."
