What are some good middle names to go with Zoë?

Also, should it have umlauts or not?

If you're living in an English speaking country, I don't think the umlaut is necessary =)
As for mn suggestions...

Zoe Calla
Zoe Ismay
Zoe Enya
Zoe Isabelle/Isobel
Zoe Melina
Zoe Irene

Zoe Alexis

The umlauts are a nice touch but I wouldn't put it on the birth certificate.

I think Zoe sounds nice with one syllable middle names. Claire?

My friend Zoe has an apostrophe over the e. When she is typing it she spells it Zo'e. Her name is Zoe Elisabeth, which I think is really nice.

She has an apostrophe over the e? I can't picture that. Is it Zoé?

Yep :D She is pedantic about it being spelt with the apostrophe too.

Its an accent, not an apostrophe.

That's an odd spelling.. I would pronounce it Zoh-ay, not Zoh-ee

It's an apostrophe when she is typing it cause she spells it Zo'e. Her name tag at work is also spelled Zo'e.

It is like there is a middle letter being missed out (like an I).

I didn't say I liked the spelling, it is just how she spells it (Well how her parents spell it).

I was confused about it being called an apostrophe! That's just the French spelling, and the "apostrophe" is actually an accent - un "accent aigu" as we say in French. If she can't type it on her keyboard, you can tell her there's an alt code for it - ALT 130. (:

I'd say put the umlauts on the birth certificate if you're expecting to raise your child in a german/dutch/french/scandinavian country, because then they know to read the vowels separately. Otherwise it's not that crucial. But if you'd like your child to be "internationally suited", then I say go for it anyways. I do find any extra graphic on the letters of a name to be a bit bothering, but that's just me. If it were my name, I wouldn't want to constantly have to remind people to add it.

..which happens. My mother kept calling my pen pal 'Zo'.

Personally I prefer it with the diaeresis (or spelled Zoey), or it just looks like it should be pronounced "Zo" to me. I'm just being picky though, and there isn't really a need for it in English speaking countries.

It's actually Sam West but they do look disturbingly similar! Happily I have a Rafe icon too, because one can't have enough images of cute curly boys. :)

My "friend" whos some what of an idiot spelled it Zhoe the other day when coming up for names for her unborn child. I think it looks ridic.
The umlauts should be on the birth certificate as someone above me suggested but its not nesasary to use them all though american/canadian school life, it just gets annoying and bothersome.

I love the name Zoe. I would not use an umlauts. I know two Zoe's and neither of them use it. Seems to make it more simple when typing, writing etc. The only way I would say to use it is if you are in a location where it is necessary for pronunciation. I just know here in New York...it would prob be forgotten a lot.

great name though.

I also think it needs a simple middle name. One syllable prob. Claire is really nice. As long as the middle name is somewhat short and does not start with an E think you are ok. And if it was me I would not use a super trendy/unusal middle name since Zoe isn't too common.

If you say it without putting the obvious pause in between the two names, it kind of sounds like "Zo Elizabeth or Zoe Lizabeth."

i've always understood it as the umlauts would make it sound like zo-A rather than zo-E so i guess i would use them or leave them off depending on what pronunciation you want.

Umlauts in English, which are obviously totally out of style, exist to tell readers not to pronounce the vowels together as one sound. Normally, like in the word "toe," you pronounce both vowels as one sound ("oh").
In words like Zoë, coöperate, and naïve, the umlauts indicate that the second vowel is pronounced distinctly from the first. You'll see it occasionally on the name and on naïve, but pretty much never anywhere else anymore (unless you read the New Yorker, where I've seen it on "coöperate" relatively recently).
I don't think it's super important, but I prefer the name with them. I really do want to pronounce the name to rhyme with toe otherwise.

Zoe Amelia.

and definitely use umlauts, otherwise, yeah, people will rhyme it with "toe" - have a friend that this happens to.

FH and I have decided that our daughter will be Zoe Genevieve (for his grandmother). However, I have always been partial to Zoe Elizabeth.

Zoe Alexandra

Do you want it pronounced ZOH or ZOEY?

If you want it pronounced ZOE, then it's ZOE. If you want it ZOEY, use the umlaut.

Personally, I would never think of pronouncing it to rhyme with "toe," even without the umlaut, and I've never heard anyone pronounce it like that either.
Maybe it depends on where you are from, and if the name is common enough there that people will know how it is pronounced. Even then people might not know what the umlaut is for, depending on where you are in the world.
