Angelina Jolie's new daughter.

Zahara Marley, what do you guys think? I really like the Marley. Zahara is nice, but I like names that can have their own little nickname (example: You can call a Madison, "Maddie"). I guess you could call her Z for short.

You could call her Hary. Ha ha. ;)

i think it's pretty cute.
it doesn't flow that well, i guess, but who cares.

Zahara's nickname could be ZZ ♥

or Zara.

Zahara is cool.

I don't like Madison, though. I don't like the "Mad" in it, or the "son" because that indicates a boy. The nickname "Maddie" is just begging for the kid to be a stonefaced grump who hates the world.

It sounds nicer on a guy.

I don't know. I just can't stand boy names/last names on girls (Jordan--which looks puke-worthy enough on a boy--, Avery, Kennedy, Lincoln, etc.).

I agree.

PLEASE don't tell me you know some poor little girl named Lincoln!

Not yet. I heard people saying they liked it, though. Bleh!!!

Personally, I'm not big on nicknames. If you don't intend to use the child's name, why did you give it to them in the first place, you know? Plus, they are hard to shake. My father is fifty, but he's still "Kenny" (rather than Kenneth or Ken) to his mother and anyone who knew him when he was little.

I agree with ^

i've been trying to explain this to my boyfriend for a while, though. he doesn't get it. he's a nickname kind of guy, i guess.

But if his name isn't that common, why isn't that special enough? Will you call him that when he gets older? I don't know, it just seems silly to me.
Not to attack you or any other parents who like nn's, just my thoughts on the issue. :)

On the nickname thing- my little sister's name is Danielle, but we have always called her Dani. My mom loved the idea of giving a girl a boyish name, but she wanted my sister to have a "formal" name to fall back on, so she named her Danielle with the intent of ALWAYS calling her Dani.

I have a friend named Zara and we all call her 'Zed'.
I like madison:)

You could STRETCH Zahara and give the nickname Ara or Ari...which is what I would do if I had to choose a nickname for myself (if named Zahara).

There's Zara...or an English version of the name could be construed as Sara or Sarah.

I love the name Zahara. I wouldn't name my child that, but it definitely appeals to me; I think this is mainly because, growing up, the main character in my favourite Oh-It's-So-Romantic-But-Alas-The-Guy-Will-Die novel was named Zahara. Shockingly, her boyfriend died in the book. But she was very brace. At any rate, Zohar or Zahar in Hebrew means "glow" and has all sorts of nifty mystical connections. Plus, it's teh pretteh. So I give the kid's names two thumbs up.

Zahara Marley is the bomb name! love it.

Zahara is an awesome name.
Not sure about Marley.
