What does everyone think of the name Leander for a boy?

Also, would you pronounce it 'lee-AN-dur' or 'LEE-an-dur'?

I like it, it reminds me of Hero and Leander, and the LM Montgomery book Magic for Marigold. I pronounce it lee-AN-der, and I think pretty much everyone else does, too.

That's what it reminded me of, too! I couldn't use it for one of my kids though, 'cause it wouldn't sound good with my last name.

Sounds a little too womanish. Luann, Leanne, Leander. I don't know what I'm taling about.

Leander makes me think of Lysander (From Midsummer's Night Dream), and I saw this performance of it once where Hermia's chasing Lysander and screaching "LY SAN DURRRRRRRR!"
....therefore I pronounce it like Lee-AN-dur.

I don't know... it sort of sounds like neanderthal to me. (Minus the "thal," of course, considering I'm pronouncing it correctly.)

Yay Shakespeare!

I love it. And I pronounce it lee-AN-der. You could call him Lee for short. Or Andy. So cute! :oD

Leander is also the name of a city close to Austin, Texas. My best friend moved there a couple of years ago, so using that name would be weird for me.
