I used to think it was a really pretty name, but then my friend told me it reminded her of a old, fat German woman with braids.
Needless to say, that kind of ruined it for me.

I like Adele more than Adelaide, but it isn't so bad.

Too me it seems like one of those old fashioned names like Alice or Meredith or Eleanor that are really elegant. Alot of those names are getting popular again but Adelaide is still 921, which I admit is part of the draw.

I do see the braided old German lady connection but only when you pointed it out. It's not something that would bother me. Now if it were Brunhilde or Hildegard or something I think I wouldn't be able to get over the Opera singer in my mind's eye.

I dunno...I'm not sure if I love it or if I just think it's interesting. I'm kinda rolling it around in my head right now.

Aahaha, no, I think Brunhilde and Hildegard are the epitome of awful names (perhaps with Hortense squeezed right in the middle).

Oh, it's definitely an interesting name, and Addy, like the person below said, is a cute nickname.

I don't mind it...it's actually the middle name of one of my great grandmothers [Her name was Annie Adelaide]

However...I am Australian and it's always going to be a state to me lol. Having said that --- to whoever said above that it is a 'bogan' city...they are completely wrong! I have cousins who live there and it's very nice.

yep me too - I'm from Australia and I can't even tell whether I would like the name or not if I didn't have such a strong association with the city. It's like too strong a connection for me to even try to think of it as a name. But objectively it is a decent name - it already exists, it isn't trendy or popular but it isn't completely unheard of.
