What do you think of the name Harriet?
I never really thought about the name before - I was neutral on the subject - but I've seen the name in a couple of books I've read the last few weeks, and I'm starting to really like the sound of it. There's just something about it that I really like.
Do you think it sounds too...old lady-ish? What about in relation to the names Eliza, Louisa, & Amelia and Sam, Ben, & Jake (my top 3 names for each gender)?
I like it paired with either Renee or Lila(h) - which do you think sounds better?

Date: 2007-07-08 07:51 pm (UTC)It reminds me of this kids show when I was a child. Harriet's Magic Hat.
A boy and a girl would put on their old Aunt Harriet's various hats and then be transported to the place the hat was from (for example if it were a farmer's hat they would be transported to a farm where they would learn about farming etc).

Date: 2007-07-08 08:00 pm (UTC)I like Eliza, Amelia, Sam, and Jakob.
Renee is really pretty, with Harriet I would use Renee.

Date: 2007-07-08 08:41 pm (UTC)I've never thought of it as 'old', have only ever known Harriets who were younger than me.
It sounds perfectly fine with those other names.
Hmm to be honest neither sounds that great, but probably Harriet Lila (Harriet Renee seems a bit heavy on r sounds).

Date: 2007-07-08 09:14 pm (UTC)Most people I've told that I liek the name think its terrible and very old ladyish, but I don't care. A lot of babies have nice, classic 'old people names' right now.
Harriet Renee sounds good, I think.

Date: 2007-07-08 09:35 pm (UTC)I think I have the same problem, as some of my favourite girls' names probably sound like like old lady names to some people. I don't like names I feel are more for older people on little children myself, but I've never really associated any of the names I like with old ladies, until I've seen other people say they think they are.
It's just one of those things where different people associate different names with different things, depending on who they've known and what characters they've read about or seen.

Date: 2007-07-08 11:52 pm (UTC)Lilah would be my pick for mn, if only because it's less common than Renee, for Harriot. But for Eliza, Louisa and Amelia, I'd pick Renee, because you wouldn't be mirroring the "A" sound from the first name.

Date: 2007-07-09 10:13 am (UTC)i love your other girl's names, and your boy's names are great too, though they seem nickname-ish to me. i think harriet flows well with them.
harriet renee is nice, harriet lilah just doesn't seem to match very well, but there might be too many Rs in harriet renee. what about harriet katherine or harriet elaine?

Date: 2007-07-09 02:07 pm (UTC)i like the sound of harriet elaine, but i'd prefer to use family/friends'/important names as middle names. i have a rather long list, but renee and lila are two i'd like to use - renee is my mom's middle name and lil (with no a) is my best friend's middle name.
