I have been looking more into the traditional Gaelic/old Irish names that are still around and in existance...
the colored lettering ones are the ones i really like. the others are just... interesting and the ones that i think could grow on me.

I personally hate Gaelic names. Their pronounciations go against all phonics in the English language. People just give their kids Gaelic names to be "unique" and kre8tyv, but I think it's cruel to the children.

i know plenty feel that way, and it wouldn't be my child's sole name or probably even the one i'd refer to them by. But i feel very strongly that my children should be tied to the rich and colorful and ancient heritage and culture that is theirs by birthright - being Irish.

and it goes against the english language, b/c it's NOT english or even names brought into use AFTER the romans with their latin *which is the root for english* invaded the Irish soil. These are the names from a time when the land belonged to the Irish and no one else.

As far as I know, Aoife is pronounced ee-fa, not eff-a and Saoirshe is pronounced seer-sha, not sheer-sha.

I love Gaelic names and have an excuse to use them since my fiance is only a few generations removed from his Irish ancestry. He looks it, too. :) Though he'd likely veto any with spellings that were too difficult, which means almost all Gaelic names are out of the question.

Bronwynn, Niamh, Seamus, and Eammon are my favorites from your list. Never heard Lorcan before, but it's an easy spelling and I think it could grow on me. It's also close to Loren, which I love as a guy's name.

great-gran came over straight from Ireland. I'd love to live in the western part of ireland - couinties clare or galway. :)

lol ok, well when i was reading, they talk about the language began it's decline in use when the Romans came. You're right though - English is decended from the Anglo-Saxons, ergo Germanic. lol

p.s. but a lot of our english words DO have roots in the Latin language - is the point i was making, only i doesn't appear that i did that too well. ;) lol

i have to agree. names with the 'bh' in them kill me... like Shiobhan, Aobh, Aoibheann. I know how to say them, but A LOT of people don't.

it is not bad in a place like Ireland, where a person would know how to pronounce it, because they see it regularly. but here, in the US, that's just asking for your name to butchered everyday of their life... even when they correct people, they still will probably read it & go back to sounding it out.

granted, there ARE some names/spellings that will happen to anyway, i understand.

i like Loren as a boys name (Lore-en) & Lauren for a girl (Laur-en)... but a lot of people say them the same way, so they wonder why i like something that sounds like Laura for a boy lol

the only things is i prefer them for boys for some reason. The girls names I like are a lot harder to pronunce with the Gaelic spelling. Like I love the name Niamh but I can't imagine how people would pronunce that here in new york city haha.

i love gaelic names, they are so beautiful. plus my name is tara, and i really like it (it's so nice to see it pronounced correctly, i hear it as ter-uh on some us tv shows and it drives me insane!). my favourite gaelic girls name is eire, i looked after a little girl with it as her name and i think it's gorgeous.

Roisin is on my list! I think Gaelic names are really pretty. The only down side is that most people don't know how to pronounce them...Even I don't know for sure when it comes to some names. All that said, I like the (girl's) name Fainne as well. It's supposed to be pronounced Fan-ya =).
Of your list, I like Ceinlys, Maire, Quinn & Tara (the latter as a middle name).
