In honor of it being the Fourth of July here in the US (well, it still is the 4th in the midwest at least...), I was thinking a lot about patriotic names.

What  are some names that you consider patriotic names?
What do you guys think about names like America, Liberty, etc?

I love the name America as far as how it sounds...I couldn't name a kid that, though. I hate anything that comes off as abrasively patriotic.

I wouldn't name my child anythin patriotic, but I did name my golden retriever Liberty Belle (and I completely regret it! Now she goes by Libby or Liberty).

Heh, I love the name Liberty but wouldn't ever use it on a child. Well, not a real one, lol. I named my Cabbage Patch Kid Liberty Josephine and call her Libby Jo. :)

hehe America used to be on my list!
it can get by as not-so-much-patriotic, because it comes from a real german name (Amalarich), which is where Amerigo Vespucci's name came from anyway.
Possible nn's: Amy, Merry, Ricka.

I knew a girl named America who went by Amy.

"Hippie parents?" I asked once.

"Hippie parents," she agreed.

I used to be on webtv way back when, and it one of the groups I was on there was a girl named Liberty Ann Justice (Justice was the last name).

I know a girl named Liberty, and I met one named Freedom. Freedom was named such because the mother left an abusive relationship, but I can see it being used as a patriotic name.

I think Justice or Justine (or even Justin) is a pretty name but names like America or Liberty are...eh. Sam I associate with Lord of the Rings.

What about really "homegrown" names like Bill, Bob, Tom, John, Ralph, George, Betty, Howie, Henry, Mary Sue, Skip, Annie, Marge, Gus, Roy, Will, Whitie, Pete, Danny, Nancy, etc.?

(I stole a lot of those off of Pleasantville (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0120789/fullcredits#cast)'s cast list, by the way)

I hate those sort of names, but I don't mind states, like Virginia.

I like Liberty, not necessarly because it's patrotic, but it just sounds pretty. I knew a girl (who I didn't really like) who said she was almost named Liberty Dawn, but ended up being named Jenna.

I had a class with a guy named Justice.
