[identity profile] sandtree.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
I probably won't have kids for at least another ten years, but Norah has been my favourite name since I was ten or eleven. I read it in a book, and I thought it was great, and unlike other names that I've liked and then got sick of, I've stuck with Norah.

I'm just wondering what everyone's opinion is on the spelling. Norah or Nora? The spelling that I've always liked is Norah, Nora seems to create a completely different feel, but is good in its own way, so now I'm kind of conflicted.

What do you think? With an h or without?

To me Nora is more clean-cut and belongs more to the "old prude" style, while Norah recalls more history, maybe I associate it with the Torah, and with singer Norah Jones that looks really exotic.

Any thoughts for a mn? :)

I prefer Nora. Check out Nora Barnicle. Good, old-fashioned, unfaddy name. Mind you, I have an Aunt Nora, so I'm biased. Incidentally, I once knew a girl named Honora, simply 'Nora' with a short 'O' sound just before it.

I always associate the name, Norah, with Norah Jones. And she's quite lovely, so that's how I'd spell it if I had to choose.

For the sake of efficiency, Nora. Not the greatest reason, I know, but if there was a way to spell it with one letter, I would do that.

My baby cousin is called Norah :)
When my aunty was pregnant and told me that she was planning on using that name, i thought "ughh it's so old ladyish" and i really didn't like it.
But it's definitely grown on me, and my cousin suits the name :)

I adore Norah with the h on the end!

I'm fond of strange h's, though as my name is Meghan.

Norah with an H!

Nora looks in-elegant and modern. It's a far too trendy look of spelling.
