I play roleplaying games and have associations with fictional characters. There are some characters who've been so important for so long that it would be really odd to use their names, although I like them. It's much like calling your child after a well known TV character.

I really like the name Christopher, but I've dated two and it's my brother's middle name and I don't really want to name a child after him. We were going to name our first child David Christopher if she'd been a boy. Now I'm not sure how I feel about the whole name anymore.

One of my favourite names is Claudia, but it's too similar to my boyfriend's ex's name - I know he'd never go for it. (Claudie is such a cute nn too!!)

I'm lucky that all of my exes have had common enough names that they're not particularly ruined for me (plus we're all still on good terms). I can imagine, however, that any future spouse of mine would object to me using any name that reminds me too much of my "first love(s)", haha.
