[identity profile] otempora01.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
I was watching Spongebob Squarepants (I swear this is relevant) and Mr. Krabs' Mom called him by his first name, Eugene. No offense to anyone with the name, but it struck me as a particularly nerdy name, especially when I remembered Eugene, the lovable nerd from Hey Arnold.

So, discussion. What names are, in your own opinion, nerdy names? For a boy, I'm thinking along the lines of Eugene and Sheldon (still watching Spongebob here). For a girl, it's a bit harder for me, but Eunice (She's The Man) seemed pretty nerdy to me.

I repeat again, no offense to anyone with these names.

Bruce, Ned

Prudence

That's all I can think of right now.

Bruce makes me think of Bruce Lee (total non-nerd), and Prudence makes me think of the Beatles song.

For some reason, I always felt Martin was a nerdy name.

My uncle is Eugene and I think it's nerdy too. Eugene was the nerd in Grease too. I think Sheldon is distinguished.

It's hard for me to distinguish some names as nerdy... umm...

Clarence
Dexter
Norman

Yeah Bruce is a "tough man" name to me - Bruce Willis, etc.

Bruce Wayne is the connection my brain automatically makes. So no, not nerdy to me.

Ned is nerdy though. And Prudence to me isn't nerdy, just old-fashioned.

hmmm nerdy names...

Eugene (I loved Hey Arnold!)
Dexter
Walter
Herbert

and for some reason guys with names like Robert or Michael who refuse to use the common nicknames Rob or Mike. (maybe it's just cause I had an ex who was a nerd and had a name like that...he refused to shorten it to the more commonly used nickname...I just thought that was a bit nerdy and uncool of him)

Carlton. From Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.
Poindexter. C'mon now!
Napoleon. I truly, honestly loved the name until that movie ruined it.
Milton. From Office Space.
Melvin.
Walter. (Although, I think of Walter from Silent Hill 4. And...even though he's dead and evil...he's HAWT!!)

Daria. (I still remember Beavis and Butthead chanting "Diarrhea cha-cha-cha!" LOL)
Velma. (The ultimate girl nerd, IMO)

Ned.
I know it's a form of Edward (which doesn't sound nearly as nerdy) but Ned is the epitome of nerdy names.

Probably Dexter is high on the list, because of Dexter's Laboratory.
Hortense.
Alfred.
Maurice.

I didn't even think of Bruce Lee when I wrote that, but you're right, definitely not a nerd!
I think Marty for a male is nerdy, but not Martin.

When I thought of Bruce I thought of a nerdy looking guy...I guess we all have different associations with names!

I think Oliver is a very nerdy name. I picture a big sissy-boy. I can't believe it's becoming so trendy.

Ronald (more specifically, Ron)
Floyd
Milton
George
Vernon
Bert
Seymore
Richard
Francis

Hmm. Girls is harder. I'd have to think about that. But Irma comes to mind immediately.

Eugene sounds nerdy to me. Sheldon doesn't seem to nerdy to me but I haven't watched spongebob or met anyone with that name.

Peter (knew a kid from 4th to 12th grade and he was an extreme nerd. He also smelled and was extremely odd)
Dexter

Lydia (also a girl from high school)
Amy (again a girl from high school)

People really influence names, imo.
