I don't think I've ever heard Quaye before, but if you hadn't specified that it's for a boy, I would have thought it a female name.
Marissa isn't bad. I never used to like the name, until I came to be friends with a very sweet girl called that. I'd always thought Maris was pronounce "MARE-iss," and liked that form quite a lot. I read recently that it's actually "MER-iss," so now I prefer Marissa.
er, Quaye is not made up. Probably quite uncommon, but it's an existing last name. Finley Quaye is a singer, and I was thinking maybe Quaye could be used as a name, like Avery or Mackenzie (which also are first names coming from a last name)
I wouldn't have liked the name Marissa if I didn't happen to know a super cool one. So yeah, I do like it now though.
Quaye is kindof.. really hard to intuit/spell. I wouldn't be sure what to make of it if someone introduced me to Quaye and I'd probably give a weird look as I tried to figure out if I misheard him.. And my Texan accent butchers it, but that shouldn't hold much relevance, hehe.
Quaye isn't that bad, but I don't know that I would use it... Maybe go middle name if you really like it.
As for Marissa, well I am ((was, I guess... -is so sad they cancelled the OC-)) a huge The OC fan, and it does remind me of Marissa. Who I didn't particularly like. But, I don't think there should be a problem with it, since it really wasn't that popular of a tv show anyway, and it's off-air, so hardly any one will remember it in a year or so.
I don't know why I don't like Quaye, it just sounds very incomplete to me, or it reminds me of "sway".
I like Marissa. It was my favourite name when I was 5 years old and when I had just learned to write, I wrote heaps of stories about a baby called Marissa that just went on and on with no plot and drove my parents crazy lol
Now I probably wouldn't use it but not cos there's anything wrong with it, I just like different names now.

Marissa... I personally find it a little bland, but why not?
