What do y'all think of the name Selma?

I quite like it. I automatically think of Selma Hayek, who I think is one of the most beautiful women I've ever seen. It'd be a good choice.

This is who I think of when I hear the name. So I don't like it much. But that aside, I think it's a nice-sounding name.

Makes me want to follow it up with "and Louise" even though that's Thelma.

It's a good name. Not my favorite, and not my style, but, you know, not a bad name.

It wouldn't be a top pick for me. It does remind me of Thelma and Louise as well and from the Simpsons. That is just my personal preference.

I think the previously mentioned actress's name is actually Salma Hayek, although I might be wrong. Myself being from Alabama, that colors my perception, but when I see Selma, I first think of Selma, Alabama, and the Civil Rights Movement marches between there and Montgomery.

I'm from AL, too. That was my first thought, Selma, AL.

my sister had a gradeschool friend with that name. but she was Muslim and so I always figured it was a more ethnic name that would sound funny on a white person. at least to me.

Selma/Salma is really popular Arabic name, not just for Muslims. Arabs can be of any (or no) religion. They can also be blonde and blue-eyed or light-skinned. The name is used by everyone!

I live in Alabama, and there is a town not too far away from mine named Selma. It is a definite no for me.
