Well, the one in the Bible uses BOTH - it is spelled Nathanael.

So both of yours are wrong to me in terms of original spelling. If I had to pick one, I would choose Nathaniel, because that is how the author Nathaniel Hawthorne is spelled. It is a more "correct" variation.

Firstly I don't like the name.
However, I would spell it with an e. I look at it with an a and I think of denial.. crazy.
Plus, isn't it a sort of extension of Nathan/Daniel.. just looks right with an e.

I like Nathaniel better, but I would accept Nathanael as a legitimate spelling too. I used to spell it Nathanael, becuase I knew someone who did. Now I know a Nathaniel much better, and any other way looks wrong. So this is obviously a very biased opinion :p

I'm also anti-Nathanial. It just looks clumsy, and while this post is evidence that you are in fact literate and thoughtful, if I happened to see this name written (without the benefit of this post) I'd mentally make a "tee hee misspelling" note and remember to tell my friends.
