Here's a boy's name that came up yesterday:

Dorian

I like it and my husband loves it. I like that it is Greek, literary, and has a balanced sound with our last name. But I wonder if people would mistake it for a girl's name?

I would never think of it as a girl's name. Does it sound like a girl's name that I can't think of?

I've only ever known a girl with that name. No boys :/ So I think of a girl. But If a boy came up to me and said "hey my names Dorian, whats yours?" I wouldnt think anything of it either really. but with no face or gender to it, seeing dorian makes me think girl otherwise. I think it just depends on who you know or have heard of, yaknow?

I can't imagine anyone mistaking Dorian for a girls' name.
I like it because it reminds me of Oscar Wilde (even though the character was not so nice).

Yes, but what a namesake! Murder, drugs, cruelty, and all around debauchery. Yikes!

I'd say a boys name too!

How is it pronounced?

For me, it is entirely a boy's name. And I like it very much. :)

I view it entirely as a boy's name, but could imagine someone who's never heard it before mistaking it for a girl's name, if hearing it out of context.

It's definitely a boy's name, but it does sound a bit similar to Doreen, which is presumably why some people find it quite feminine.
I think it's a fine name, but I wouldn't use it myself because of the association I have with Oscar Wilde's character Dorian Gray.

It reminds me of The Picture of Dorian Gray, which I hate, but otherwise it's a pretty nice name. Definitely for a boy.

Dorian is definitely a boy's name. I'd do research into Dorian Gray though, and make sure that you'd want to name a kid after him :P

I am not really familiar with the name, but I have only met one Dorian who is a woman. I'm sure I could get used to it on a boy too.

Who cares if they do mistake it for a girls name? A boy named Dorian has nothing to be ashamed of in a world of Aidens, Braedens, Jadens and Kales.
