Disney Dog is Inspirational??
Jul. 31st, 2005 10:41 amI was looking around on Baby Name sites earlier, and on one of them I found a poll asking what people thought about the name Perdita. All I can think of is 101 Dalmations, Pongo and his "wife" (or woof) Perdita.
I was just wondering...aside from very older women or females in Latin speaking countries (since it has that sound to it, like Lolita or Margarita...and "ita" usually means "dear one" when added to the end of a name)...
Does anyone think this name could ever fly in society without being compared to the "female dog" in 101 Dalmations??? Does anyone actually KNOW a Perdita other than the dog, or know anyone who has considered giving this name to a child?
It would be comparable to anyone using the name Dory for their child.
However, I think that people can still get away with Fiona (Shrek) if they wanted to.
Thoughts??
*Edit* Here is where I saw the poll, although I don't know how long it will be up there:

Date: 2005-07-31 09:59 am (UTC)I think I might be aging myself by telling everyone I only identify Perdita as the mother dog in 101 Dalmations. I'm 22, and while I have read Shakespeare, I didn't know there was a character named Perdita anywhere in his plays.
Thanks for enlightening me.
I understand what you're saying about googling a very uncommon name. Every newspaper article that ever mentioned your son (or someone in a similar situation) would probably come up.
