If you've ever seen the movie Where The Heart Is (starring miss Natalie Portman) then you'll recognize these ones.

Novalee
Americus
Forney

Also, what about Mikhail? (pronounced, I think, the same way as Michael)

ETA: Sorry for any confusion I might have caused regarding the name Mikhail. I had only seen it and never heard it pronounced so I wasn't sure which way it went. :)

WTHI is a *great* book as well. :D

I love that book so much! Forney became a favorite of mine after reading it. I'd never use Novalee or Americus, but they fit the characters well.

I've never seen Michael spelled Mikhail, and I don't like it.

The book is on my To Read list, but I can't stand the name Americus. It just sounds... tacky. And I've always heard Mikhail pronounced as Mih-Kyle.

(btw, you might want to change the [] and and {} in your post to <> so your html works!:D)

This is more similar to what I'd say. For Mikhail I might say "Mik-ALE," or possible "MICK-eye-el." That's also how the pronounce Michael in some countries (such as Germany) as in the instance of soccer player Michael Ballack.

Michael Ballack, my favourite person!

I love the Michael pronounced that way. I think the American way is horrible.

Because of this book/movie, I adore the name Novalee. I don't know how/if I would use it, though.

I'm a bad bad person, but when I say Forney, I think "fornication."

I've never seen the movie, but I've read parts of the book. I liked the name Novalee as soon as I read the summary on the back. XD But I cringed on the inside when I saw the name Americus... I particularly don't like it as a girl's name. I'm also not a big fan of the name Forney.

I agree, I find the name Americus (especially for a girl) really unsettling!

Mikhail = "mee-KALE". I know it's German and Russian but I don't know what other nationality. I.E. Mikhail Baryshnikov

mikhail isn't pronounced like michael. my boyfriend is russian and his last name is mikhailov, pronounced "mik-HI-lof", making me think mikhail would be pronounced the same way, without the "ov" at the end.

I remember her saying in the movie that she was thinking of naming the baby "Wendi with an I" and the guy who sold her the camera said no, to give her something strong. I think Wendy or even Wendi would have been better than Americus :-\

Mikhail is Russian, and it'd be pronounced as Mik-HI-l (if that makes sense), like Mikhail Barishnykov!
