A Twist on a Junior

I'm not much for naming kids after their father getting either a junior, the third, or what have you.  Anyway, I really like my middle name of Catherine, so I thought instead of naming my daughter after me I would just name her Cate.  I know that she still wouldn't be a junior if I named her Catherine since it's just my middle name (plus I don't know if women really do that), but I really like the name Cate and I think it's kind of a fun twist on naming your kid after yourself.

I'm also not a fan of naming children after their parents. My Mom and my older sister are both Cathrine S. (last name) and it's really confusing when people call.

Your solution is a good one. There is a difference between naming your kid after yourself because you like the name and because you like yourself.

That's a good idea. I've thought about doing something similar. My middle name is Tess, which was my grandmother's name, a shortening of Theresa. I really like the name Theresa, and have thought about using it for a future daughter.

I like the idea of using Cate. Cate's a pretty name and it's different enough from Catherine that it's not like naming her after yourself, yet it's similar enough that there's a connection. I say go for it.

That is a nice idea, My mothers name is Catherine and i hoped to use it somewhere.
My own name - Claire i also want to use, but it's a bit hard to shorten that! I'd probably use it as a middle name.

I think it is a lovely idea!

My mom's name is Paige, and she gave that to me as my middle name, and I always liked having that connection to her!

ps. my FIRST name is Kathryn. (and my mom calls me Kate ;)
