My husband is a middle/high school teacher and I've been meaning to post about one of the girls in his class. Her name is HyAzia. I just thought it might be fun for you all to guess its pronunciation. I don't know anything about the name, if it is a real name, has a historical background or is completely made up and I havent done any research on it to find out.

They pronounce it HAY-zjuh, or like Asia with an H. I think the sound of the name is absolutely gorgeous, but I hate the spelling, the random capitalization and the fact that HyAzia looks like it should be pronounced HI-as-ee-uh. What do you think? Ever heard it before or know anything about it?

First time I saw it I thought you wrote Hives. You're right: the name is pretty but the spelling is awful. It couldn't be Hasia, though, as that isn't a pretty spelling, either. That's a hard name to spell.

Ugh, me too. Random apostrophes only work for me in the names of Sci-Fi characters (like B'Elanna or Teal'c).

I'm 99.9% sure it's made up. I don't think it's pretty at all - it sounds like hazing or to haze someone.

Why the y if it's not pronounced?? And why the capital A?? :'(
