I thought of this today after having two hours of extra band rehearsal.
A girl in my section in band is named Montana. I believe I've heard the name elsewhere also, but it got me thinking.
Ever hear of anyone named after a state?

Date: 2007-05-24 01:46 pm (UTC)My friend hates hers. She was meant to be called Melissa, but her aunt had her baby first and her cousin got that name. She would rather be a Melissa than a Georgia.
I love the name and I tell her that everyday. She always argues with me.

Date: 2007-05-24 02:38 pm (UTC)I think several state names would work very well, mostly for girls. I used to live in Indiana, and think it would make a pretty name. Tennessee is pretty, as well, but would always make me think of Tennessee Ernie Ford (which wasn't his real name). I've always liked the flow of Nebraska, but can't imagine actually calling a person that (what would the nickname be? Nebby? Aska?), and I think Arizona would work as a name, too.

Date: 2007-05-25 12:50 am (UTC)Hm... state names don't really work if you're outside America, do they? I live in Australia; can you imagine a kid running aroud called New South Wales, or Northern Territory? Hehe. Victoria works of course, being an actual name, and I suppose Tasmania *could* if you wanted to be really out-there... though why you would is beyond me. I know boys called Tasman, after the sea. Sounds like Tasmin, which sounds feminine.
