May. 21st, 2007 06:22 pmI don't particularly like the idea of giving a real kid a word as a name (too much semantic baggage), but there's something lovely and quirky about it. It's always fun to give them to characters in stories.
A lot of them I consider fairly unisex.
November
Lyric - Looks and sounds like a boys name (mostly because it reminds me of "Eric") but meaning-wise it seems more feminine...
Adelaide - I know it's an actual girls name, and it's gorgeous, but I associate it with the city so I wouldn't use it.
Paper
Whisper
Spell
Book
Trilby - Again, a somewhat archaic real girls name, but you hear it, you think "hat".
Teal
Charcoal - For a boy.
Kite
Candle
Thimble
Thread
Go ahead and add your own to the list... or tell me how mad you think I am. :p (Just remember I'm not going to give these names to REAL children, so don't panic.) Ooh, Panic! Niiice...

Date: 2007-05-21 09:40 am (UTC)And i think Lyric is kind of cute, for a girl or boy.
What do you think about the infamous 'Apple', or 'Peaches'?
You could use other words for fruits as names...
Clementine
Berry
Cherry
I tend to think weatherish/element-esq names are cute, i doubt i'd ever use one though.
Frost
Snow
Storm [i know a girl called storm]
Sunny
Stone
Flame
Sandy
Rayne/Raine/Rain [this is one of my favourite names]
Seasons?
Summer/Autumn/Winter/Spring?
I personally think Autumn or Winter would be really cute.
Months, or days?
May/June/November.....Juillet is French for July.
Tuesday/Wednesday
Places? Cities?
Sydney/Adelaide are common enough...
Paris [duh!]...Lyon, Clermont,
London
Sicily
Sienna/Siena
Vienna
Jakarta
Dallas - i like this for a boy or a girl.
Albury
Cairo
Secret
Jet
Feather
Blade - this is the middle name of a boy i know.

Paris... ick. Too common. Clermont I like (where is that?). Albury too.

Date: 2007-05-21 01:05 pm (UTC)Flower nouns are a bit done, but nice, and intangible nouns (Hope, Charity, Dolores, etc.) aren't quite as zesty, in my opinion, but I like a lot of both of those categories, too. Just not as much as Real Things.
The good thing about a lot of these names is that while people may blink a bit and say "Your name is Kiwi?" at least 1. it's different AND 2. people know how to spell it.
Rare combination, that!
