Expecting and Need a Name

Okay, I don’t exactly know how to introduce myself but I’ll give it a shot ^^;
My name is Sarina and my fiancée (Markus) and I are having trouble choosing a baby name. I’m a few months along and we don’t know if it’s a boy or a girl yet but we have a list of names we like (for both genders) and are having a difficult time narrowing it down. So I would love to hear any opinions you have. Whether you hate it, love it, or think it’s “eh”

WOW. You have such an untrendy but easily pronounced list! May I offer my very humble stamp of approval.

I like nearly everything on it (sorry of that's unhelpful), but my inner eyebrow raises at:

Jenny
Bill

and other names that are usually nicknames for longer names. Teachers, employers, etc., would probably accidentally write out the "full" name that Jenny/Bill is expected to have.

Helga is so unfashionable it's unreal, but it's soft on the tongue and phonetic. I think it's fantastic and underappreciated.

PS - Fleur? Sirius? HP fans? It's a good thing! Hee.

April - I'm not a huge fan of month names, but this one isn't bad.
Ariel - Great name
Delia - one of my favorites
Elizabeth - Classic and there are a ton of nicknames
Eris - I'm not a fan. I'm not really sure how to pronounce this, but it doesn't really do anything for me.
Fleur - All I can think of is Harry Potter, but it's okay
Gwen - Like it, but more as a middle name
Helga - It feels really outdated to me and doesn't seem like it would fit for a girl. Maybe as a middle name, but I definitely wouldn't use it as a first.
Jaime - I like it, but I've always thought Jaime was the masculine spelling and Jamie was the feminine?
Jenny - I love it. Would you use it as a nickname for Jennifer or just by itself?
Jessica - Great name and it's popularity seems to be waning a little bit
Katrina - LOVE it
Lisa - It seems very 80s-trendy to me, but I don't see anything wrong with it
Michelle - again, it seems really 80s-trendy
Rose - I love it :)
Susan - it's okay, but not really one of my favorites
Victoria - LOVE
Violet - It's okay, but not really my style


Bill - I like it, but I've always preferred Will or Liam as nicknames for William
Eric - Love it
Milo - LOVE this name
Sirius - I love this name, but all I can think of is Harry Potter, and I think that's the connotation most people would have. If you want to avoid that, I'd use it as a middle name

Jaime- I don't like this name because there have been several Jaime's that I've had problems with, but I realize that's just a personal issue. It's pretty but I could never use it just because it would remind me of those people.
Jenny- like someone else said, I prefer it as a nn for Jennifer, not alone. However, I love the name Jenna. I think Jenna stands alone but Jenny is better as a nn. I do like it, though.
Jessica- common/classic/pretty. Same as Jennifer.
Katrina- I think it's okay.
Lisa- pretty
Michelle- Not a fan of this name. I don't know why.
Rose- classic
Susan- a pretty name but not my style at all.
Victoria- my number 1 favorite!!!
Violet- love it

Boys:

Bill- would prefer it as a nn for William, but even then I think Will is a better nn for William
Eric- It's funny, I like Eric, but I don't like Erica for a girl. Eric is my dad's middle name. If I were a boy I would have been Matthew Eric

I don't know where you're based, but do you know the UK TV show 'The Hustle'? The actress starring in that is called Jaime and she's beautiful. It was also the first time I'd come across anyone with this name. (I'm in England).

I like most of your names, so I will only comment on the ones I don't like because it's quicker (sorry!)

Eris - I don't like this because it reminds me of Eros, which I believe is the greek word that words like "erotic" are derived from. Not that everyone will think of this, but it just didn't appeal to me at all. Erin and Iris are both nice similar names to this.

Helga - This just has a very ugly sound to me, and it brings to mind a fat cranky German old woman

Milo - is the name of an extremely a popular drink here in Australia, so I think of it as a pets name only, but I realise this connotation doesn't exist everywhere.

I agree with whoever said I wouldn't give Bill or Jenny as given names because they are too nicknamey. There are other names besides William and Jennifer though if you wanted to use these as nicknames.. Anything that starts with "Wil" (Willem, Wilhelm, Wilson, Willis, Wilbur, although I don't really like these)... Jenny could be from Genevieve or even Jenna I suppose.

The other girls' names I like are Ariel (although I would probably spell it Arielle), Gwen, and Delia.

All, I can think of when I see the name Helga is the comic strip Hagar the Horrible (she's Hagar the viking's grouchy wife). Sorry, haha.

And I don't care for any of the boys' names, except for Milo. I really like it, despite the fact that it reminds me of the movie about the cat and the dog "Milo and Otis". :o)

Delia-- I LOVE this name. its on my list, too.
Elizabeth-- eh, its ok. more of a middle name choice, imo.
Eris-- i like it. i think it should be paired with a more known middle name, though.
Fleur--eh, harry potter. i love hp. but, i don't think its fitting for a baby. especially since soooo many people would associate that.
Gwen-- i like it.

I'm surprised no one has said this yet, but Eris is the goddess of discord who started the trojan war by getting the goddess to all fight over who was prettiest.... not really a happy connotation

I like most of your other girl names because they're so nice and classic, but i'm not a fan of Fleur, Helga, and Jaime, and I agree with whats been said about Jenny

for boys, I like Eric, I'm not fond of Bill even as a nickname, Milo reminds me of that movie cat and i can't think of it as a human name, and i dont like how the name sirius sounds (that, and I don't like harry potter at all.)
