[identity profile] margiecb.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames

Hey friends!  Y'all are going to die, but I am being induced with our second son NEXT Friday and I still haven't decided on a name.  I was hoping for a little feedback.  Just to give you some background, we live in the southeast US and are really set on a traditional name.  I'm huge on family names and nicknames don't bother me a bit considering almost everyone in our family has one.  That being said, here's my first question.  I'm thinking of naming him John Campbell Blackwelder - John is a family name and Campbell is my maiden name.  Here's the thing.  I don't want to call him John and I don't want to call him Campbell.  I LOVE the nickname Jack for John - would it be terrible to have a Jack Blackwelder?  Am I just being silly and overthinking it?  Thanks for any input.

Maybe it's just me but Jack Blackwelder makes me think of "Jack Black" the fat, annoying actor LoL If you don't like the name John, I definitely wouldn't name him it. I personally think it's sort of weird to name a baby something that you never plan to call him. Perhaps another common first name like Bryan, Michael, James etc? I do like Campbell for a middle name. I'm a big fan of maiden names for middle names =)

I was thinking of Jack Black too, so I agree that it's probably not the best choice if you don't want to call him John. I like Campbell for a middle name but I don't have any other suggestions for a first name since my taste is completely different than yours.

i'm not too fond of Jack Blackwelder, even though i love Jack Black the actor haha. but if YOU like it, then it doesn't matter :p

It's a great name... so what if people think of Jack Black, he'll be your son, and he'll be great. You could also call him JC - I have a friend who calls her son that, and it's supercute.

What if you used Campbell John Blackwelder and called him "CJ"...no one would ever have to know what that stood for if you called him CJ...it's catchy. Or keep it the way you had it and call him "JC". I know three different "JC"s and one is a girl.

I personally LOVE initial-names, but I know it's a love/hate thing.

JC is kinda cute, I think. And, since I have a dad, brother, nephew and several cousins names John, I would be reluctant to name my son that... but it's not because I don't LIKE the name. ;)

I'm a big fan of maiden names for middle names, and that seems to be a really popular Southern tradition particularly among those of us with Scottish/Irish/English forebears. My sister and I both used our maiden name for our sons' middle names so her son is JOHN Mitchell Bowyer and my son is Trevor Mitchell Mills.

Heh... I first thought of calling John Campbell Blackwelder "Camp", but Camp Blackwelder is worse than Jack Black... welder. I also agree with the person who said you should name him whatever you want without regard to the loud annoying actor/comedian. He could be dead by the time your son reaches puberty.

And... it could be worse. My granddaughter's name is Jenna James... so we're hoping no one remembers the PORN STAR Jenna Jaymes by the time our Jenna is old enough to care. ;-)

I think the name John is quite nice... and you really don't hear of too many little newborn boys named John these days!

And, speaking of John, that's also my son-in-law's name... father of Jenna. HE is the one who knew about Jenna Jaymes. Darn ex-sailor. ;-)
