What is the dumbest/weirdest/craziest name that you like?

For me, its 'place names'. I love London, Holland, and Kansas as names.

Well, this one is only odd b/c he's from another country (Transylvania, Romania) - over there it's not so odd:

Ishvan. *eesh-vahn*

some others i like:

BOYS~ Asher, Adonis, Cassius, & Deontae.
GIRLS~ Persis, Damaris, Melissande, & Phaedre.

oddly enough, other than Ishvan (& possibly Adoins on the off chance my child is not less-than-handsome), i contemplate using these names. ESPECIALLY all the girl names. :)

Stange, I was going to say Damaris but I didn;t find it especially weird.

oh! i remembered another boys name that i will more than likely find a way to name my son:

Gawain *as in King Arthur's knight*

Specifically, the one from "Gawain and the Green Knight." Though in the story he displays some cowardice and is marked for life because of it. But he's a mostly positive character overall, and the name is good.

I like Orion and Huck for boys, both of which are "weird". I'm also kinda partial to last-names-as-first-names for boys, like Walker or Brennan.

Mercedes ♥. I always loved it as a girl's name, but it reminds everyone of the car.

What if you pronounce it the French way (mare-SAY-dase)? Then it doesn't sound so much like what we would think of as the car. And I think it's prettier that way too. :o)

I believe it's originally supposed to be pronounced like that too =) I like it better that way as well. But still...if I ever were to choose that name for my future daughter, I think I'd make it a middle name or something ;)

It's a shame that such a pretty Italian name has become so associated with a car.

Hah, yeah, exactly =)

I think it is Spanish. If it was Italian it would be pronounced Mer-che-des.

lol! I love love love "place" names - My two favorites are Kansas (girl) and Indiana (boy).

I also love city names. Although my three favorites (Paris, Austin and Brooklyn) are now so WAY beyond overused!

I have a friend who named their daughter Sedona. I thought that was pretty cool.

I had a geography teacher in 7th grade who said he wanted to go back and name his kids after countries. His favorite was Seychelles. Personally, I like names from books because I like to read, but saints names would be neat too. For instance, my name is Bridgett and there is a Saint Brigid (Bridgett is a variation of that) from Ireland (I am Irish) and they celebrate St. Brigid on February 1st (I was born early on February 2nd), and since my family has a tradition of the mother's name being the daughter's middle name, it would just be neat to be named for two saints.

Someone here suggested 'Edge' for a girl and I quite like it, at least as a middle name.

I like names of Pagan gods/goddesses:
Hecate, Cerridwen, Isis, Rhiannon, Morrigan, Branwen, etc for girls; Odin for boys.

My other favourite names are Demona (girl) and Varg (boy), as well as Ea for a middle name.

One of my guilty pleasures is also a place name - Bethlehem (girl). It's been well and truly no-no'd by hubby. :(

Snow, for a girl.
I love it because it's so soft and sweet, but I hate it because it's so gosh darn trashy.

I know a boy named London :)

My weirdest ...

Boys = Dadealus*, Caelum, Calyx, Iago, Jericho, Taliesin*
Girls = Aesara*, Arianhrod, Calabria, Cerridwen*, Symphony, Tennessee
I also quite like Indigo, for either.

*I would actually consider these for middle names.

I love the name Ruth for a girl. It is older, but I think that is such a pretty name.
I love the name Canaan for a boy... even though it is a place.

My own guilty naming pleasures: nouns (other than flowers, which are commonly used anyway)... and I don't mean intangible ones like Charity, Joy, Hope, Grace, etc.

No, I mean TANGIBLE non-flower nouns. Melanotaenia, Fern, Rosemary, Rhubarb, Opal, etc.

Obsidian for a boy... you get the picture.
