question on last name...

not quite baby name relatedbut can you just make up a last name for your children? asking because my fiance and i do not like our legal last names. mine is dukes, his is kwarciany. (before that it was garbold- complicated issues behind the name changes). his birth last name is gunn but he can't get it back before he's older for other complicated reasons he doesn't even know yet. so neither of our current names will work with what we will name our kids. like our first daughter (supposedly first born) will be named callisto rose. i like callisto rose gunn but none of the other surnames fit.

my suggestion would be for ALL of you to have the same last name. choose one that you and your husband both like and will sound good with ALL the names. you may also want to consider ethnic names, depending on your ethnicity and your feelings on the matter.

a lot of modern couples pick a new name for themselves when they get married. it's not as uncommon as you might think.

but i do think it will be best if at least one of you has the same last name as your children.

oh, and if he can't be named gunn for a while, is there any reason you can't go ahead and take that name?

you said he can't get the name gunn back before he's older? so why can't you change your name to gunn and he can change his name when he is "older."

thats what my friend did. her and her boyfriend didnt like his last name, lol. so they gave the baby his (fathers) middle name as the babys last name. he was named Skylar Andrew Teal. So pretty.

me and my girlfriend want to change our surname when we're married...I like Star as a surname, but she wants to change it to Cobain...nirvana fan, go figure

i think you can choose WHATEVER last name you want when you fill the birth certificate out...so go with Gunn! And you two can change your name to Gunn later when possible.
