This is my current list of names that I like. I'm big on the meanings of names as well as the names themselves, and ethnicity does play a big part -- my name is Gaelic and hence I prefer other Gaelic names.

Devlin -- Irish, "Fierce courage"
Hamish -- Scottish, "The supplanter"
Cillian -- Irish, "Little warlike one"
Ciaran -- Irish, "Dark, black"
Ruark -- Irish, "Rainstorm"
Cassius -- Latin, "Hollow, empty"

-GIRLS-
Morgaine -- French, "Bright sea" (however, the original spelling 'Morgan' is Welsh, I just like the French spelling!)
Shanna -- Irish, "Lily, rose"
Alaina -- Irish, "Bright, fair, beautiful one"
Scarlett -- French, "Red"
Isabella -- Italian, "Consecrated to God"

Ciaran is an absolutely terrific name.
I wouldn't name my kid Cassius if only for the Caesar connotation...

I love it too. I listen to Hamish and Andy on the radio (they're presenters in Australia) and that was how I realised that I love the name.

I really like your names. Ciaran is so lovely. ((I've actually used it in a story I'm working on)) I like the female form too: Ciara.

i don't know if popularity concerns you at all, but isabella is very popular right now. scarlett is pretty. the others aren't really my style and shanna reminds me of shanna moakler (she ruined a decent name lol.)

Oh yeah, I know Isabella is really popular. As I've said in various comments, this is just a list of names I love. Scarlett is pretty, yes, but isn't really Gaelic enough for me to name a child that. And I have no clue who Shanna Moakler is, so the name isn't ruined for me. :)

I think Morgaine is my absolute favourite out of the girls list and Devlin from the boys.

Keer-an. Same way as Kieran. "Ciar" is actually the Scots-Gaelic spelling of black, so Kieran is a more Anglicised version of Ciaran.

^ I second that! I just think it's a bit hard to pronounce. And 'Hamish' reminds me too much of 'Amish' (not that that's really bad...it just reminds me too much of it).

I don't automatically think of the Amish with Hamish, mainly because I live in Australia and the Amish are American. I just don't think enough about them.

Yeah, I guess Ruark is a little hard to pronounce -- I don't think I'd name a son that, though. Once again, it's just a name I really love.

I like all of your girl names, especially Shanna and Isabella.
Devlin is nice too. I just dont know any middle names that would fit with it.

The only boys name on your list I really care for is Ciaran, which I love.

But on your girls list, I like them all buy Shanna. I especially love Scarlett and Isabella!
