Finally! Here's the link: http://www.ssa.gov/OACT/babynames/

What are your thoughts? :)

EDIT: You can check out the top 1,000 names as well. Does anyone notice any significant trends?

Mostly, they are lovely classic names. It's reassuring.

I'm surprised that Aiden is more popular than Aidan. Kind of upset that Ethan has jumped up a spot or two tho, Very similar to last year though :)

I HATE that. Aidan spelled as Aiden is one of my biggest naming pet peeves. Ugh.

Firefox sees it as a misspelling. My son is and Aedan, I'm glad it's not in the top 500 this year, but it is raising in popularity.

I don't mind Aiden as much as the Aydyn type deal.

Me too, I am so surprised at it being the preferred spelling all of a sudden.

I'm a bit upset about the popularity of Sophia- I love it, but don't know if I could use a really popular name. Then again, when I was born, my name was #8 on the list, and I didn't know anyone else with my name until middle school.

I've seen some of the number crunching and with combined spellings Aiden/Aidan/Ayden/Aedyin etc. easily makes the #1 spot for boys.

I don't think there is anything really surprising. I typed in all of my favorites and they held steady, so I'm happy. I was afraid their was going to be a big jump with Daphne in particular, but it actually fell a few spots. yay!

I loved Aiden for our first baby, but I got vetoed. I wasn't even considering it for our second, since I found out it was so popular, but it showed up at #30 on the list!!!

Do you think it's still too *up there* to consider?

My two cents

If you were to add up all the Aedan/Aidan/Aiden/Ayden/etc. The name would be number 1..

My son is an Aedan, born in 2006, and there are 4 other variants of his name in our playgroup. One is a girl.

Whoa. It may still be too high on the list then. Darn.

Thanks.

Just a few years ago, I hated the top names.

Now most of my favorites are on that list.

i'm not surprised at any of the top 10 in the spots they're in. i don't understand how ashley and samantha are still so popular, but isabella, ava, sophia, emma, etc. were definitely poised to be at the top. madison is still hanging on, as is emily. addison leapt to the top 30...definitely becoming the new madison soon. ruby is also climbing...i predict that'll be in the top 50 or even 30 in the next few years.

Half of my favourites feature, and half don't. More or less. Although I suppose that may just mean that I don't have a very American taste in names, who knows.

The trend seems to be classic/traditional/old-fashioned names. A lot of the names (boys and girls) remind me of presidents and their wives. I was browsing through the top 1000 and saw these names in the 600s:

Xzavier
Boston
Junior

That many people really give their sons these names...? Interesting.

When you're in the low numbers, it's not that many people naming their kids those names. Number one is about 25,000 kids/year (for boys; for girls it's much lower) and number 100 is down to fewer than 5000 named that per year. So down in the 600s it's probably like 26 ha.
I'm sure you can find info elsewhere, but I looked at this:

I'm glad my son's name isn't in the top 100. Some of my other favorites are, though. And my favorite girl's name isn't either. =]

Michael will always be one of my favourite boy names, even though it's been either first or second for the last 50 years lol.
Olivia was one of my favourite names...but it's EVERYWHERE now.
Other than those 2...im really not that fond of any of those names. Which suits me just fine!

Lol it's funny that most of my boy names are on the top 50 but NONE of my girls' names are. William, James, and John are in the top 20, and I intend to use all of those. The only girl names I like on the top 50 are Emma, Grace, Ella, and Lily. The highest ranking name on my list is Annabelle at 206. The rest are either way at the bottom or not there at all.

The only thing is that I really cannot understand the appeal of Ava. I can only think maybe it's because of Reese Witherspoon. =\ The only name I really can't stand is Madison. And even though Abigail is starting to get on my nerves, it's not really a bad name.

The Emily/Emma love is so tired. In my high school there's about ten per grade.

wow, I am really surprised that Emily beat Emma. I had been told Emma was the "new" Emily. Ick. About the only name that I reallllly hate is Madison.

I was born in the late 80s and I'm really surprised to see the all of the top boys names are still very familiar but I hardly grew up with any names from the girl's list. And I'm also very disappointed that Sophia has gotten so popular! Because even though I prefer Sophie I just know that all those little Sophias are going to go by Sophie.

I really wish they would combine spellings. Ariana and Arianna are right next ot each other. It's the same name!
