This is a question for those of you with children.

Did you have named picked out for your future offspring before you concieved them.   If so, did you end up using them.

Also...just out of curiosity...what are your childrens names and how did you come to pick them?

We had picked out Emmaline Henri (h is silent, French) and didn't end up with that at all. It was mostly because Emma was too common. We ended up with Cressa May Henri.

With my first, I had a first name picked out for each gender and I did end up using it. It took a little convincing with my hubby, but he eventually conceded. He did, however, choose the middle name. Our daughter's name is Delanie Ruth.

With our second, I had a nice long list for each gender. This time, my husband put his foot down and insisted on choosing the first name himself. He never decided on a boy's name, but he gave me three girls' names to choose from. I chose Elysa (the other two were absolutely horrific) and I chose Paige on my own as the middle name. It was nice to find out at the ultrasound that we were, in fact, having another girl. Otherwise he would have had to get to work on boys' names, since he only suggested one and it was something that I absolutely hated.

I honestly have no idea how I came to start liking the name Lily. All I know is, I got pregnant, and I knew that if I had a girl her name would be Lily. I came across her middle name, Calla, while looking up pictures of lilies in the encyclopedia (this was back in 1995, before the internet was widely available). I came across the name, liked it immediately, read that it meant "beautiful", and that was that. Lily Calla. Btw, no joke, I never did find out what a calla lily looked like until after she was born! I just loved the name. Good thing it fits her! :)

yes for my first two, kind of for my third.

I had Germaine Evelyn picked for my first daughter before I met my husband, and we used it. Germaine being just a name I liked, Evelyn being after my grama.

I had Linus picked for my first son, also before I met my husband, but no middle name picked. we used it, with my husband's first name (Christopher) as the middle name. Linus, again, just a name I liked a lot.

for the third we were so stuck on a boys name, it was crazy. we knew the middle name would be Thomas, as both our dads bear that as a first name. we went through a gajillion first names and finally settled on Dietrich, which is also a name I liked all along but wasn't sure would work with our last name (also starts with D) but ultimately decided it worked.

there are a bunch of boys names that were on my list since before I met my husband, but got tossed due to popularity. mostly old testament names, like Isaiah and Elijah. but my first two kids' names were set in stone well before they existed.

My son's name is Benjamin Samuel. We had a couple boys names and a very few girls names that we liked when we were trying to get pregnant and then settled on Benjamin and Eleanor when we got pregnant and then picked a middle name once he was born.

Jolie for sure, the middle name is constantly altering. It was picked 3 months into the pregnancy.

And I have a bunch of names in reserve that I will choose from in the future.

My favorite names that I always thought I'd name my kids were Elizabeth and Alexander. They were strong, classic and had lots of nicknames to choose from (my name is Lauren and I never had a nickname, so I was deprived) but hubby didn't like either of them.

So when we got pregnant, we were with a friend and going through the book that her mom got her name from and I read Lilly. Hubby liked it. And I liked it. So it happened. Then we are friends with a girl (Katie/Kathleen) who works at our fave restaurant (Golden Corral) and she was like "free food if you name her after me" and hubby really liked the combo. I was hoping for Ann b/c it is both of our mothers' middle name. But then after Lilly was born I was so tired, I was like "You pick, you still want Lilly Kathleen?" and he did. So poof!

(Plus, HP fan and How I Met Your Mother and didn't even realize it when we picked)

We've gotten some free, we get some at discounts now.

Oh! And the day (well, it was like 9pm) that Lilly was born, we had DELIVERY. A box of rolls, steak, desert! My hubby was sitting in a corner and I was like "HEY, I deserve that food more than you!" It was awesome!

My husband had always been set on what his daughter would be named. I pushed for others when I was pregnant, but she ended up being Ria Emily. Her middle name came about after we found out she was a girl, it was my Grandmother's name.
